I just returned home after spending a little over 4 weeks in my bus.  We went to Colorado at the end of Sept. My Father-in-Law is now battling cancer and taking chemo treatments so we went out to help for a few days. My wife flew home after that first week, and I went hunting in Wyoming. Father-in-law was supposed to come with me, but was not up to it, so I spent 2 weeks alone boondocked in the desert chasing antelopes. It was not the fun time I had been planning for, but it worked out ok.  I then went to visit my family for a few days before heading homeward.

On the way home, I stopped in SD and visited with some busnut friends from Alaska. He was supposed to come hang out with me in the desert but after arriving in SD, he had some family issues  to attend to and was unable to come down to WY. It was good to see them.  I'm hoping to go to AK next summer and spend some time there, though won't be taking the bus unless diesel prices come down about 60%, which I think is unlikely.

The bus ran great, but as usual, the fuel mileage was not real good.  Towed the new Ford Ranger. It's lighter than the Explorers we've been towing and it worked out quite well.

Lonnie time to go

Got to love it when you have time with the bus and the open road.

Boondocking in the desert... how long does your water/holding tanks last?

I was out there 2 weeks. I have 150 gallon capacity on both fresh water and waste. I was pretty conservative; Navy shower every 3rd day, and peeing in the sagebrush (after all, I'm a man, and the world is my bathroom, right). Had guests one weekend, including a 9 year old boy who still doesn't know how to properly pee in a toilet. After two weeks, the black tank level was still under 1/2 full, but the fresh water level was starting to worry me. I was using water for other things besides cooking, drinking, shower and toilet (e.g. cleaning antelope after skinning). I had to make a trip to Laramie, primarily due to boredom, so I went to wally world and found some 5 gallon collapsible water jugs for $6 each. I had been wanting some of these, so I got 3 of them. Over the course of a couple trips, I hauled 30 gallons or water back to the bus, which I then pumped into the fresh water tank (gotta love my manifold setup).  When I packed up and left, I still had at least 30 gallons in the tank, so it probably was not necessary to haul water, but I kind of wanted to see how this would work out, and better safe than thirsty  :)
