Well, we've gotten ourselves to the Quebec, New Brunswick border, and are heading to Quebec City today and Montreal next week.  We are finding a lot of campgrounds are shut down for the season. Ok, most all are shut down.  Any suggestions for great spots to park and/or camp?  I'm tired of staying at the Irvings.

Thanks.
Chris

None of the places I know are open.  I did find this:  http://www.jacques-cartier.com/carte_e.asp which seemed to have some info on winter camping.

Ontario/Qubec Camping is closed for the most part you may find some year rounders that will take transients. But I live on a lake and have hookups 40a/sewage and water that you can use K0G-1W0 Rideau Ferry Ont about 3hrs from Montreal. google Perth Ont, Smiths Falls Ont we are 5 mins from each.

Also, and I hate to say this since it smacks of racism and typecasting, but I would personally not stay overnight within 50 miles of Montreal not in a secure camp site.  An awful lot of mafia/gang type stuff going on.  There is a kind of independent truck stop near Morrisburg on the Ontario side, exit 750 on the 401, that has a kind of good diner restaurant.  I've overnighted there before.

In Quebec city, you can park at «Vieux Port of Quebec». I go often and park my Prevost there. That's not a campground but you are in downtown...Here the links...

There is an RV parking lot at Cap de Madeleine Shrine in Trois Riviere for "pilgrims"

Right on the shore of the St Lawrence.

If you can keep it civilized, and no booze in evidence, they take donations.

happy coaching!

Good one Brian ;D
No worries with gangs and Mafia in Montreal, they are all too busy attacking each other to bother with tourists.
FWIW my impression is that organized crime is no more prevalent here than elsewhere, just less organized.  They keep doing there dirty work in plain sight of everyone, making the problem appear larger.  There are  people who street camp in Montreal without trouble.  They park next to parks, as long as you follow the parking restrictions on the signs you should be  fine (avoid Westmount).

Thank you to everyone for the replies.  Especially the tangent about Montreal  :D  Our guide book specifically says that Montreal had only 29 murders last year.   Coming from Savannah, GA, that sounded pretty darn safe, as we sport some of the highest gang/drug related crimes in the south.  Anyway, no more politics....

We ended up bouncing around parking lots for the nights, and spending all the daylight hours in the old down town.  What a fantastic city.   The kids found 8-10 geocaches, and we thoroughly enjoyed practicing our French.

Last night our aquahot stopped working, so we are going to hit the road for Vermont and make repairs before we start heading west for x-mas.

Thanks again everyone,

Chris.
