Had a spill in the bus, a drink, went to the closet and got out the new Mr Clean sponge head mop my lovely wife paid good American Dollars for for just this purpose. Damn thing WILL NOT PICK UP LIQUIDS. And it's a fricking MOP ??? ??? ???. I am just kind of pushing the fluid around the floor. Don't know what the mop sponge head is made of might as well be plastic.  I get so tired of imported products that do not do what they are supposed to do. You would think someone from the company who sells this crap would at least try it out before they bring it to market. And the biggest thing to me is this "stuff" we as consumers get stuck with is not so cheap anymore.

OK I feel better, rant over.  :) :)

You often have to prime sponge head mops.  In other words, you have to get them wet and soft and gooshy before they will absorb liquid.  Get it all wet, wring it out, and then it can pick up more liquid.  Seems silly but there you go...  Towels are the same way.  You have to wash them a few times before they will dry you right, after your shower.  Brand new towel just kind of pushes the water around till you air dry...    :o

Thanks Brian, Did that, had my commercial mop bucket with fresh water and some cleaner added, dipped mop, wrung mop and still just pushing the liquid from one area to another picking up very little.. The sponge is probably a man-made material, maybe the recipe for this batch was off.

I was 12 years with the US Navy on ships (Destroyers, Frigates, Ocean Minesweepers) wonder if I could find a good ol' USN surplus mop.... ;)

I do get it that you get what you pay for but like I said, a name brand company, not what I would call a cheap product and it comes no where close to doing what it should do.

Imported products are to the specs of the US company buying or having them made, very often to US specs!!

Consumer Reports just this month had an article about new towels having a finish to make them look good which needs to be washed out before they will absorb liquid.

Same article - if you wash towels in a detergent containing softener or add dryer sheets to your dryer the towels will not absorb water. I hate those. A friend does that to the towels she gives us when we visit and it drives me nuts. We are going to start taking our own.

Rick,

It is not the mops fault!

The mop may be having a "bad hair day"

Maybe the mop and the liquid are not "compatible"

You may have hurt the mops feelings.

You probably don't know how to use the "new design" type mops.

The mop may have had a poor childhood.

I think you owe the mop an apology!!

My favorite store(which shall go unnamed, but was started in Arkansas--near Rick) usually has everything I need for my household, but sometimes the quality is not there. At one point in their progress they were proud of their "buy American" offerings, but no more.

Even brands that used to be good "American" names--are now manufactured overseas and the quality and durability are less than stellar.  I am not commenting on the "bottom of the line" offerings, but the full line.

I would support a store that offered an "American made" product choices along with the "foreign" products.

Just my $0.02 worth!
