Cabinets for bus

Just got lucky on some cabinets.  I bought 12 unfinished oak front cabinets from Lowes.  They are ready to stain, trim down for the bus and install.  Best thing....Only paid $350.00 including tax for them.  Can't wait to get a chance to take out old cabinets and install new ones.  Check out Lowes if you need some.  They are clearancing out the oak front unfinished cabinets.

That's great if you don't mind loosing all that space since each cabinet is separate from the next.  I prefer to make my own cabinets that don't have partitions in between each cabinet.  Makes for storing wares easier and can store much more.  Good Luck, TomC

Have my cabinets going in this week! 

Could not afford to purchase custom made cabinets ($7,000+ from several bids) and have not retired yet to learn the art of cabinet making! So, I ended up with a company with prefab cabinets. He came to the bus, measured several times and put together a great plan. All cabinets are dove tailed, all hardwood, glued and nailed. He is going to assemble all cabinets onsite next to the bus and modify a few units. I got 13 cabinets, assembled, with all hardward and soft closing doors for less than $2,000. The nearest RTA online bid, shipped to the house for me to assemble was $4,500+.

The guy also said if I feed him some pizza he will take a bit more time, add a bit more glue and screws to ensure the cabinets stay where they should.

Yeah Tom I understand.  I just got such a good deal on the cabinets I could not pass up.  My bus was built before I bought it and I am just redoing some things.  My wife and I measured and we can deal with little extra space.  In fact...she was the wanting me to ad some cabinets.  I am..I am just replacing all kitchen cabinets and adding some in our bedroom and bathroom.

Grant, sounds like you are going to have some very nice cabinets.  I just can't spend a ton on each project.  Way too many projects..BUS and others.

James ; made me a pattern out of foam board for radius and cut cabinets then put luan on cut out portion. Bob

All my cabinets were from that big store. They look good and work well. I did have to re size them all to fit the bus the way I wanted them too.

I suggest that you scribe the radius for fitting the cabinets individually.  The shape can change quite a bit at different points along the bus.

Thanks for the advice.  I do plan on making each cut per where it will be installed.  Bob, I was able to get the matching oak face looking panel that will stain great for the side.  I had not thought about foam.  I was going to use cardboard...foam may be easier.  BTW..They (Lowes) put the entire line on clearance.  Just got lucky.  I will tell you...My bus is no show place.  It is looking much better than when I bought it. She is built to use and enjoy without too many frills.  I have two young girls who don't worry about making messes.  But that is ok.....I bought it for them to allow me the time to enjoy with them and their mother.  Best thing is, it is paid for and is ours.....bad thing is fuel just won't allow me to use it as much as I would like.  Remember if you have read some of my post.....I'm crazy bus guy that would drive his bus to work if he could.

Lowe's close outs: have found out they do not occur at same time all over the country.  So if intrested keep checking your local store.I used those same oak cabinets in two of my coaches. Had compliments on both of them.  Happy bussin    Bob

I had to make all the cuts to make these fit. I had most of them all the way apart to rebuild to the size I wanted. I would say that it would have been easier to start from scratch but I am not a cabinet builder. I did do alright remodeling cabinets LOL Here are a few pics. You don't need to be fancy but can do a decent job with cabinets from Lowes.
