Tires????

My sister and brother in law are in the business of building trailers.  They build liquid nitrogen transports.  They have a huge stack of tires and I just happened to be standing there next to them and saw they were 11R 24.5   I know they are from the rear duals.  Would these work on a bus.  I have not looked that close at them other than I noticed they are not cracked.  I have not found a date on them yet.  I will spend time looking at them if yall tell me they would work for my rear duals on my bus.  If they will work I can probably strike a very VERY good deal for others on here as they are wanting to geet shed of them.  They have to put brand new tires on before the transports leave the shop.  I believe they are Firestone.  What say yall, will they will work on a bus or not?

My 5A is shod with them and they work fine.  If you were closer I'd be interested in 4 of them.

So I guess there is no difference in tires for the rear of a trailer and the tires on a bus, or better yet an 11r24.5 is an 11r24.5 no matter what you put it on.  They also have 22.5s in there as well.

Well, no, trailer tires are not the same as others unless they happen to be all-position.

Wayne on most trailer tires there is no difference, a food service here runs the Firestone 507' on the steers and the trailer and I just checked the Firestone web site and it shows that tire used for both, trailer tires are easy identified they will have straight flow thru grooves and some will have a center grove just like a steer tires.

Buy those suckers if you get a buy and use them

I made a deal to replace a window in their house and I get 4 tires in exchange.  Does anyone else need tires? I am sure I can make a dern good deal.  The ones I saw were all in great shape.  They are in Eagle Lake, Texas.

Actually there are differences between steer tires (often called all position tires), drive tires and trailer tires.  Dedicated trailer tires typically have thinner treads (only requirement trailer tires have to do is braking), have tread patterns that are made to go straight down the road.  I would hesitate on running trailer tires on a bus because of less traction factor.  The best would be to find out what exactly the model of Firestone they have so we can look it up.  Good Luck, TomC

Wayne,I spoke with my Toyo rep he tells me they don't (Toyo) make a special tire for trailers except for a lowboy and that is pretty much the tire industry standard now that the same tire works on any free rolling axle like trailer,steers,and tags he said there may be a few still calling theirs trailer tires but will be the same as steers just a different box .
He told me don't expect great wear from those if you use them on the drivers but they are safe to use on drivers

I will probably definately use the tires.  So far as wear, I will never see the end of the tires life.  Meaning I will never wear the tread off of a tire before the expiration date.  I only put about 10,000 to 15,000 a year on a tire on the bus.
