This in one way to arrive at the campsite..
While waiting for the ferry to take us across the lake I shut the engine down and when I hit the start button nothing, I went to the engine compartment and you could smell the arid smell of burnt wire. Tried the hammer trick and a few others so unhooked the Corvair and my wife went for help. I told her to tell the road side service provider (Automobile club with RV plus) that the RV weighed 12 tons, I didn't want a little one ton dually to arrive. We were 40 miles from the closest town and 60 miles from the camp site. The big towmobile arrives and asks where I want to go, The campsite of course. Off we go, and cause quit a stir with the other big rigs as we pull in, to late in the day to get into it so the first thing the next morning off comes the starter, only a half hour job on the Prevost, but also a 45 minute job to replace the drive shaft. The starter has a round burnt spot on the outside that has turned the paint white. Now into town (Nakusp) which is a small interior town with a population of about 1,500 people any chance of a starter there... A local repair shop that does logging trucks has one, apparently a customer had ordered it and never picked it up, the price  $340.00 no core charge,  what a sweet deal, back to the campground and in an hour everything is tucked in and tightened up.
We had a great weekend, Tree Island Campground and the town of Nakusp is a great place to visit. On a side note we did a little tour and there is a back road store that still uses the gas pump where you pump the gas into a large glass before gravity puts it into your tank. If I could spell Vissy Pump I would.

5,6 years ago, we went to Nakusp with the old Courier 96 pulling the boat, stayed in the municipal campground. The boys went to a hockey camp there in August for a week. Great little town, friendly. I needed some rubber for motor mounts. I found some in a local shop. Those BC interior towns are very good that way for parts and service with the logging and mining industry. And they know DD 2 strokes.

We stayed a few miles east of Nakusp a lot of years ago when the kids were little.  There was a kid in the campground named "Levi" - if that kid didn't grow up to be a serial axe murderer it was a genuine miracle.  He was bad news at 4 years old and his parents were either too stoned or too drunk (or both) to care.  Glad to hear you got moving again.

Hey JC, at the BC Busnuts rally at Klinks last week i heard that you might have sold the Courier. Any truth to that?
Used to own a 1968 MCI 5A and a 1977 5C.

No I still have the Courier 96. I've had some inquiries, but no sale yet. I don't really want to "give it away" for a low price. I will probably park it on our farm in Alberta (rented out for now), for us to use when we go there.

Sorry I missed the rally again. I took the kids to a dirt bike race, as we go almost every week-end.

Great decision making!  Why spoil a weekend, especially if you recognized what the problem was and knew how to get it fixed.

How about a pic of the 'Vair?

Here you go, it's a standard so it's towed 4 down and I have a brake buddy to conform with the troopers. It's a great toad, I have a large mannequin dressed like an old lady that drives as it's towed with her hands on the steering wheel. It gets a lot of second looks. The other car we tow 4 down is a Chev HHR, the 1963 Corvair is a lot more fun to drive when we arrive somewhere, please no Nader stories.

Missed you in August, but will watch fior you next year for sure.  Brother-in-law told us he was chatting with you (his Dodge isnt done yet)

Coach is still not complete (may never be done), but it's working real well. New steering, good tires, freshened engine....woo-hoo! Leave for Arizona Dec 26th again. 2 months off this winter.

Keep in touch! All the best to Dorothy, too.

Hey, I learned to drive on a '63 Monza Convertible just like yours, except it was white/blue!  Great little car. . .

I actually DO have a Nader story, but it's totally different than what you'd expect. . .

Thanks for posting.
