Not a bad price if it checks out, but from my studies here and elsewhere, that engine/transmission combination is a very poor choice. Way too underpowered and it will suck down a lot of fuel (think ive read 3-5 mpg??). Mine has an 8V71 4 speed which I found to be more than adequate power wise, even made it up my billy goat driveway with highway gears, though many here feel that is still too underpowered.

I would also be concerned as to what they covered up with foam. There is always a reason someone stops these projects, and the truth is not always what the seller tells you it is. Buyer beware. That said, if you could get it for under $5K you might be okay and wont have a fortune into it starting out. I got a 8K 3 banger diesel Genny with mine, lol

Side note, I see it has pantograph cargo doors??? Are those custom, or did the later models have them??? Can the older models be upgraded????

The 6V71 is a little underpowered, but it won't use that much fuel, even with the Allison. We had them at Brewster's with that engine/trans, and they were slower than the 8V71/4speed manual in the 5As and Bs, but it would be OK for a MH if you don't plan on pulling a trailer. With it's dry cylinder liners, it is more robust than a 92 series. Also it could be turbo ed for more power. The pantograph baggage doors were standard on the 5Cs. A 5C is really like a 8 or 9, only 35 foot.

The 6V71 with auto is OK on the flats, but frustratingly slow on hill's! JIm
