Here's the deal when I started the Lexus a RX and headed for Scottsdale the information center did what it was design to do but now I only have a blue screen is there some place I can check it the 2 fuses are good.
Any help would be appreciated never have I taken it to Penske's Lexus dealership it didn't cost 2000 bucks or more and was trying to prevent that if I could, maybe a software problem I could fix with a scanner ?  thanks

good luck

I dunno jack about Lexus but if its like any other computer maybe it just needs a reboot.  Try disconnecting the battery and letting it sit for a while before you hook things up again.

Well Clifford, you restored my faith in mankind. I lived to see something automotive that you don't have covered. Thanks for all the things you do have the answers to.

Mike, i can relate to that. I played golf with a guy 3 times a week for 7 months and never saw him miss a putt if it was within 15 feet of the hole. Finally one day he did miss one and i said "My God, you are human!!!" ;D

Bob beat me to the reboot... that's what I would do. Be sure to give it a minute to completely power down. It might be necessary to unplug it and replug it in.... the old GE reset.

Ah, Windoze and the Blue Screen of Death!. I don't think just unplugging the battery will do it, it has a backup battery for those cases. Find a shop manual for the proper make/model/year with a detailed procedure. Another possibility is that the screen itself died. Has it been hit?.

$510 labor eye?

Wow, so they are telling you it took 2-3 hrs to change that battery?
Or are they telling you it took 2-3 guys 1 hr to figure out how to change that battery?
Or did it take them 2-3 hrs to find someone who could change that battery?

Or most probably it took the technician 10 minutes to pull the battery, 3 hrs to go Walmart buy a battery, stop by the burger joint and have lunch and a couple beers, come back and another 10 mins to re-instal it.

$510 labor just seems a little rough for replacing a battery.
Of course I have a friend who drives a Toyota and his wife has a Lexus and as he points out sitting in the garage side by side they look the same! (his in laws bought her the Lexus for her birthday! LOL!)

Clifford,

My local Lex dealer told me he could diagnose any problem for one shop hour charge.  In this case $85.  They have been good on their word and have done stuff like reset the computer to clear a fault for free.  They invite me in, feed me coffee and doughnuts and give me a cubical where they deliver the shop manuals I request....I am not making this up.  Its all of them...shop foreman, mechs, service manager, parts guys......all of them.  $85!

I once needed the igniter module for the ignition system......$480 each new.  $45 for the pair from my guy in NJ used.  Freight included.

ALLDATA has the complete manuals ion line for $15 a year access.  You should have that service anyway.  Look up the procedure for memory battery replacement and you might find that it takes a Phillips #2 and little else.  For sure you can get smart enuf to tell a local mech EXACTLY what to do and give him "pitchers".

Get on Club Lexus and visit the forum for your RX.  Describe your "blue screen" problem and i will bet you another steak dinner that you get a definitive answer and a suitable substitute for the Lex branded battery that can be had at the drug store(maybe).  Those guys are, taken as a group, your equal as the "brain trust and corp memory".  Memory....not mammary, silly.

My Lex is a 93 SC400.  The mechs at the local dealer came around and got introduced by the service manager.  "This is Mr. Grabe.  He replaced his starter on his SC400 all by himself.  He didn't need a lift".  The looks I got ranged from awe to suspicious disbelief.  The manager later asked how i did that cause it takes two mechs 4 to 6 hours and they need a lift.  Its posted on the forum under JohnEd....starter replacement.

The guy's name is Gazi Alli and he is a approved "vendor" on the Lex Forum.  SUPERB individual and a wealth of info on what fixes what and just exactly where the bear pooped in the Buck Wheat.  Reminds me, I need the plastic inner fender liner for my left front,  Aero dynamanicks is impotent for a car that does 140 every once in a while just to see if it still feels as good as remembered.  Darn governator is supposed to allow 144 and I spent a lot on tires that will take that.

Good luck Clifford.  Hope we can save you a bundle "next time".

What year is you RX?  300 or 400?

BK,

The Lex RX drops more in resale value than it's Toyota sibling.  If you want a deal, get a Lex SUV RX or otherwise.
