John, I don't think it is wise to change elements without calling the factory.

All the US models are 120v; the 240v models are European-spec.  The issue here is that the 120v element requires twice the current (amperage) as the 240v element, and I'm not sure if the Euro-spec models have internal wiring beefy enough to support the amperage of the 120v element.  Same goes for the thermostat.

If I had to take a guess, my guess would be that they use the same wiring harness and thermostats in both models, to keep the number of different parts in inventory down.  But the only way to know for sure is to take them apart side-by-side, or call the factory.  Remember that the 120 models are UL listed, whereas the 240 models are CE approved, and these agencies have differing requirements that may have mandated different harnesses anyway. In which case, why would they waste the copper to oversize the wiring on the 240 models?

HTH,

I have a S 1200 Seaward here looking at it comes with 2 different elements 120V and 240V with a different wiring diagram for the 240v,10 amp breaker required for the 240v that is not bad

Clifford, if yours is a US-spec model, it would have appropriate wiring for the 120 element, and there would be no harm in switching to a 240 element which, as you note, requires a smaller breaker.

My concern is that he is looking at a CE-spec unit, and I don't know if those units are rated for the 120 elements.  My guess would be yes, but I would not trust that guess without opening one up or calling the factory.  Mine is a US model, and I've never cracked open a CE model.

I don't understand the rating deal it has both 120v UL and the 240V CE what ever that is it has the 120v element from the factory,I don't have any idea where these are coming from but they are popping up I gave 350 bucks for a pair in the boxes heck the Seaward name was worth that much both have rear heat exchangers probably one of my good deals that is not so good
but I have Van LoL

good luck

Looks like it should work fine, but I would call the factory just to be sure.

New 120v elements are $25.
