Did my annual oil change and check up --- chassis lube -- brake adjustment -- genset oil change -- transmission oil change -- all the filters (used the old ones so I now have new stock) -- Installed an alarmstat for the retarder  -- new magnets for the cruise and speedo (gotta reprogram it with the new RPM numbers and 4 pulses per revolution)

Had new tanks made --- going to replace all the plastic with ten gauge steel and PLASTIC tops only

All the batteries are holding the charge (made it for over nine months) Got the SUPER BUBBLE out of the genset

It has to be time for a 3000 mile road trip and  a MAJOR party with a seven mile run in the middle

Nothing like a BUS for a good time and a Road Trip   ;D

Have fun Mel.  I can understand the bus, the road trip, periodic fixing, everything except the stupid running gig in the middle.  But have fun anyway.  If God had meant us to walk/run he'd have never let us invent internal combustion.

Its the last thing but its still on the list.

Amazing how much time and effort is involved with preventative maintenance. If more of us just got under the bus (safely) to inspect and learn what to look for, many of the on road break downs would disappear.  Have fun Melbo and Good Luck, TomC

Agreed! I've had my bus since oh... July of 07, and it has been PM catch up ever since. Did manage to sneak in an interior of sorts during the process, but it is still, and always will be first and foremost on the to do list as far as the bus is concerned.  Good job on the PM's there Mel, with dispatch approved, go and have a spectacular road trip, you earned it!

Good job, Mel.

That PM is important to stay currant on. I have spent many hours on PM, and haven't regretted any of it.

Might try and weigh in on this one if'n I may?  PM's are a good thing and should be done, but even the best of intentions will not stop something from happening if it is going to happen.  I just did my battery check, two out of three on the starters were needing water.  The house batteries were even worse, 4 out of 8 and three of them were bone dry, and I like to think I keep a good eye on things.

Just goes to show ya ..... Someone on the board signs off with "if it breaks, then it was probably ready to be replaced" or something to that effect.

A nugget of wisdom in that one for sure.

I do as much as I can, because I know that doing it on the side of the road is NOT the place to fix it.  But even still, poo-poo occurs.  I thought we were all ready to go to Texas last month, everything checked out.  Then we go to fire up the genset (which started just fine at 9a.m.) and it would not hit a lick.  Acute battery failure syndrome.

You just never know .....

Last year I got a one day break on the side of the road from water in the transmission brain box so I'm hoping for an uneventful trip this year.

Thanks for all the kudos.
