Making a banzai run to Tucson, AZ this weekend, bringing my USAF son leftover "stuff" that he can take to his new home in Colorado Springs.  After a 5 1/2 year stint in Germany, he's just finishing up a training class at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, TX, and Tuscon is a good meeting point for us both.

Since it's 12 hrs behind-the-wheel one way for me, no time to visit fellow busnuts along the way, sadly.

Routing is CA-99 > I-5 > I-210 > I-10.

My question for fellow busnuts:  Do you know of a Costco or Sam's Club with fuel islands relatively close to the above freeways in the San Bernadino, Phoenix and Tucson areas?  These stations are roughly 20 cents/gallon cheaper than most others, at least in my area, hopefully so in the above regions.  (Gasoline for this trip, not diesel!)

I'm going to use both company's search engine for locations, but sometimes help from "the locals" can reduce wandering!

TIA!

:)

RJ, As soon as you cross into Az. there is a Flying J, it should be cheaper than Ca.  I use Diesel Boss.com  and MSN Auto Gas prices to check along my routes.  Here in Ellensburg Wa. the Flying J is the highest priced for gas or diesel. I can drive a mile farther into town and get gas for 24 cents a gallon less.  ???  Been awhile since we did the I-10 into Phoenix but there used to be a Rip Griffin truck stop in the middle of nowhere that used to be cheaper than in town. Don't know if it is still there or not. HTH.  Ed

I think i remember a Costco or a Sam's  just as you come into Palm Springs, on the south side of I-10 if that helps you any. :)

Gas is 3.55 for 87 octane close to CA.  I believe it is a Flying J at mile marker 1.  Usually it is really, really busy.  There is a new station, mile marker 7, that is usually quiet but I don't know the price.  I stop in Quartzite for the same $3.55 at mile marker 17 because I like DQ.

I passed a station off the interstate with 3.44 sign.  I didn't stop to see if that was a cash price.  You need to pay attention in AZ as many stations will charge you a 10 cent per gallon penalty to use a charge card.

If you cut it too close going to AZ about 80 miles from Quartzite there is an expensive station @ Chiraico pass to pick up a few gallons.

Enjoy the trip.

Banzai run completed, freight delivered.

Enjoyed a meal together with USAF son @ In-N-Out.

Had entertaining phone conversation w/ fellow busnut while sitting still on I-10 just 2 miles from I-8 interchange EB due to construction delay.

2011 Ford Fusion rental returned 35 mpg @ 70 mph loaded to the gunwales.  36 mpg empty on return leg @ same velocity. (LOVED the Sirius XM radio!)

Thanks to GasBuddy.com, $3.559 @ Flying J on AZ side of river in Blythe ($3.899 on CA side).  $3.219 @ Valero in Tucson across the street from In-N-Out by hotel off Cracker Barrel Rd. $3.579 @ Costco in Fresburg upon return.

Long haul, but best was visit w/ #1 (and only) son!

We just got home from a trip to the mountains I paid 2.48 a gal for fuel in Kingman Az using my Smith's (Kroger) and Shell credit card to bad I only took 56 gals lol these grocery store cards as bad as I dislike them do have their rewards at over a buck a gal off that is a good  savings

good luck
