Hello:    In the past I have had mail held for more than 30 days.. Not true any more..
After 30 days the post office will return all held mail to sender and will return all mail after that.
You must foward mail if you will be gone more that 30 days.. It does not say that real clearly; but it will happen.
We are faced with notifing all companies we deal with about our address..    So FWIW  do what needs to be done to avoid the mess we have.
ATT messed our call forwarding up so we did not get any calls for a month..  They denied any responsibility for that...
FYI   regards and happy bussin   mike

We use a service called "My Dakota Address" to be our home address in South Dakota.  They gather up our mail and forward it on to wherever we are whenever we ask.  It works great for full timers and frequent travelers, and it only costs around $6/month.

I think Clifford nailed it Mike - postmasters like to go on little power trips.  Little men with little power on little trips.

However, it is what it is.  What we have found works best is a UPS store.  Up here they are privately owned.  Some of the owners are assholes but most of them are into customer service.  If you find a good one they will do anything for you.  Once you are lined up with one then forwarding mail to another UPS store is a snap.
