Is anyone running a catalytic muffler? I had a muffler from a transit I put on my L10. I thought it was a regular type muffler when I put it on. As I am working on it I see it is has a catalytic converter built into it. I cut it open and removed the material and then welded it back together. The muffler that came with my engine is a much more open flow, but this one is all stainless. Still hoping to break the 10 MPG mark.  Tom

No converter here....

If I didnt think that my bus would be to loud I would take the muffler off.

Every diesel I have ever owned has increased milleage after the muffler was gone...

Caterpillar ran catalytic converters from 2002-2007.  Then everyone else from 2007 on runs catalytic converter and particulate traps.

Donaldson makes a very free flowing 5" in and out on the same side oval muffler made for turbo engines.  It quiets the engine, but lets some of the nice exhaust sound through.  Donaldson makes many models of mufflers.  Good Luck, TomC

The muffler I have in the shed is a brand new Nelson that came with my engine. But in on one end and out the other. I looked at cutting and welding on it. Mine should flow good now. Tom Y
