Clifford.... you saved my bacon one more time. I'm sure glad I listened to you. The parts are on the way for the price you and "Brillo" put together for me.

Yes I found that out a couple months ago when my used jake came with the wrong bridges, Luckily my mechanic had 4 used ones (Free) and my local truck garage had 2 old stock ones for $45.00each (they were on the shelf sence 1989) then they ordered me 2 more for $118.00 each, It ended up costing alot more than expexted but what doesn't. I decided that the monkey trying to shove a q ball up his arse to decide if better or not to eat one will be my philosiphy when it comes to jakes and riding up and down mountains. My biggest concern is getting to the top. From then on it's all down hill!!

I always felt that the jake brakes on my 8V-71 were kind of feeble.  I took the valve covers off and looked at them, but since I didn't know what I was looking at I just fixed a loose wire and left it at that.  Last weekend I pulled them off the old motor, and found that they were set with almost an 8th inch of clearance to the bridge rather than the spec. .064".  So I said that probably won't help them much...  I went around to the other head and found that the lock nut on both of the oil bridge pipes had backed off, and the bridge pipes had backed off so that there was absolutely no way that any oil was getting anywhere close to the slave units, and probably robbing all pressure off the main units on that side as well.  No wonder I thought my jake brakes were a waste of time...

So, how well do exhaust brakes work on a 8V71??

luvrbus

Brian, the 0.64 setting is for the old Jakes housing if your housings have 71/92a stamped the setting is 0.59 some people go to 0.55 I don't I figure Jake and DD knew what they were doing and Art you cannot use a Pac exhaust brake on a 2 stroke DD fwiw
