I do know this has been talked about. Can a guy use white poly tanks for the waste tank? If not why? Thanks for now!!

Being white tanks are translucent, maybe someone thought seeing brown goo sloshing against the walls of those tanks was a bit nasty. Though you certainly could paint it black.

As mentioned, they make good black tanks.  However, don't bet on being able to see the waste level through the tank.  They are translucent not transparent.
You don't have to believe everything you think.

A light held against the tank will show level!  HTH   JIm

White tanks of course. ;D

The only reason the tanks are colored black with carbon black is to hide what's inside.  When ordering tanks, just don't tell them you're using the tank as a black tank, then it will be translucent to see the level with a light (most reliable tank level gauge).  Good Luck, TomC

So, structurally the tanks are the same black or white. Just thought it would give more options. thank you all!! Flight 102

When I purchased the bus it had black and gray water in one tank.  We would only get 1 nights worth out of a tank and have to go dump.  That was no good at all.  So I diverted the gray to its own tank.

I bought a poly 55 gallon drum for 10 bucks at a junk yard.  I turned it on its side and used the bung as the main drain port.  I found some plastic coated cable and some turn buckles in the barn.  I bolted the cable in and tightened it to where it started flattening the side of the barrel against the floor of the bay.  It is rock solid and doesn't even wiggle.

On the now top (used to be the side) I used a hole saw to cut the inlet for the gray water.  I used a male thread on one side and slip glue on the other to fit the pipe.  I screwed and siliconed the fitting it and then ran the pipes.  Now we get 5 to 7 days out of the little black tank.  That was about a $20 fix for the barrel and the pipe fittings.

When I go re-arrange the bay where the genset and black tank are located I intend on using the same poly 55 gallon drum for a black tank as well.  With a 55 gallon black capacity we should be able to go 14 days without a problem.  I am thinking I can put a spray line in the top of the barrel (PVC) with a bunch of little holes drilled in it.  That way I can open the drain and let it go into the sewer.  Then just turn on the spray rig inside the tank and let it wash it until I get clear water coming out.  Pour some Pinesol int he top and park the buss.  I am figuring that will cost me about 30 unless I use the old valve from my old black tank.  Then with the barrel and some fittings will cost me oh about $20.

I know good and well I am going to get flamed but oh well.  It is after all, my bus!!  I tried to post pics of the gray tank but I can get to photobucket right now for whatever reason.  I will try later.
