Years ago we swapped the generators out for alternators on gm vehicles did it many times. However the years have erased all the memories of it. Is there anyone out there that can help. This will be on a '55 scenicruiser

Is it 12 volt? If so & if you are just looking for something to run the lights, pick up an '80s model GM. One large wire to the battery, no regulator, no extra wires. I just did it on my generator. Very simple with no problems.

The old GM internal regulator alternators are great but most are too small for a bus.

Even better is a Leece-Nevill diesel truck one wire, 105 amp belt driven alternator like the one on my 4104. I think it was around $150 for a rebuilt one and it works great. It does non require high RPM to begin charging.

You may want a higher amp one for your 4105.

This all depends if you have the belt drive pulley mod where the old DN alternator was mounted. If not it gets more involved.

Thanks Guys  It is 12 volt,I have the plate to cover the old gen. opening. But I remembered we had to do something with the regulator but i could not remember what? I ran into a guy from Cherokee NC at the rest area on 95 just after  you get into Ga. who had changed his but I forgot to ask how. I always put the 130 amp.on my trucks, I would like to have to much than not enough.   Thanks   Tony

The one wire I mentioned has an internal regulator. The other one I had before that, a 150 amp, also had an internal regulator but it was a three wire hookup.

Stay with much simpler internal regulators and forger those external ones.
