Central Florida - $3.49 gas & 3.95 diesel - yesterday.  Why is that again?  Why are we not drilling here? ???

We can all migrate to Caracas, Venezuela where gas is .06/gallon.  No, that's not a typo!  .06 per gallon.

I'd gladly pay the .12cents.  Why does it not surprise me that it's refined here. :o  After all, we're all well to do americans with fat bank accounts, 3 cars and a bus.  :D

BCO, add the current administration to you list. ;)

Okay, fair enough.  But someone needs to add OIL COMPANIES to this string or thread (whatever) as culprits, they have or play a big part in all this.  It just isn't inactivity by our government or political upheaval in countries most of cannot find on a globe.

The lingering effects of the recent global recession amplify the impact of rising oil prices, since higher fuel prices affect the bottom line for families and businesses. In the past year, families have experienced a 13 percent and 17 percent increase in gasoline and fuel heating oil prices, respectively. Meanwhile, family incomes have stagnated.

Oil profits however, are two thirds HIGHER than last year, which we all know was a banner year.

We are not in this alone, "Higher crude oil prices affect the economies of oil-importing nations like a tax increase ... transferring purchasing power from consumers of energy to producers." This could exacerbate economic problems in struggling nations such as Portugal, Ireland, Greece, and Spain.  We take a hit ... they take a hit ... round and round it goes.

Here in the United States:  A sustained $10 increase in oil prices would shave about two-tenths of a percentage point off economic growth. This increase would offset nearly a quarter of the $120 billion payroll tax cut that Congress had intended to stimulate the economy this year.  Higher oil prices would lead to lower consumer spending. This could smother the nascent economic recovery. Higher oil prices have already hiked food prices, we may have to forgo the Twinkies and The Ding Dong's in order to fuel the family truckster.

I am going to start buying it at the half-tank level, this is my way of coping with it, it alleviates some of the pain we all feel at the pump.  Won't make it any better ... Just easier to stomach.  This is the reality of being a petroleum whore with a fuel sucking monster for a hobby.

$3.65 a gallon, check with me in ten minutes ....

The tree-house and subsisting on bananas in Belize, living off the grid, is starting to look better and better each day Clifford.

Boxcar, you also need to factor in the decline of the USD.   It's a double hit.    Dollar goes down, the oil prices rise.   If diesel hits $5 a gallon it's going to stomp out any gains in the economy.

MCI-RICK

Clifford,

Thanks for the laugh :D  ;D

Good point.

Much like a lot of folks, I don't have all the answers, just a viewpoint.  There seems to be no one "definitive answer" to this dilemma wouldn't you agree?  We have no energy program, we have never had one, most likely will never see one in our respective lifetimes.  We need to start sending "businessmen" to negotiate for us and not politicians.  That would be a good start.  It is the kids, the grand kids, they are going to pay the horrible cost for all this in the end.

Thanks for your reply,

BCO

(Clifford, will your boat make it to Belize?)

Clifford, i see that the Smiths in Fort Mohave near Aztec Road has Diesel for $3.59  but the million dollar question is; can you get a bus and toad in and out of there easily? ;D
Used to own a 1968 MCI 5A and a 1977 5C.

Sure can ED but watch that price of 3.59 not there my friend was 3.79 today with your Smiths card and points and was only good for 35 gals just enough for the pickup lol

Whoopee, it's come down here!   Now "only" $4.25, was $4.29 this morning.   Mind you, it was $4.05 last Monday.   Unfortunately the only gas station I can get my bus into is the most expensive one!   And there's no truck stops within at least 50 miles of here.   Too bad I'm not closer to Tijuana, otherwise I'd be filling at Pemex.   I think the Mexicans have the right idea  -  just nationalize the whole shebang.

As much I abhor the prospect of 5 buck a gallon diesel, I'm sure happy my car is a VW tdi. I get 46 to 48 miles to the gallon with that thing. The bus, at 8 miles/ gallon, at $5 per gallon is 62.5 cents per mile in fuel costs alone. Ouch! I guess driving a house down the road at 60 miles per hour does have a cost.

I guess with this hobby you got to stay within that magic bubble--I like working on it. This was to be the summer where I had enough done to start doing road trips. Let's hope the Arab Revolution doesn't spread to Saudi Arabia.
