All -

Was reading the thread on the upcoming rally @ Myrtle Beach, SC the end of March.

One thing caught my attention - the campground requires proof of insurance for your golf cart, if you're using one.

Huh?   ???

We now need to carry 100/300 plus comp and collision on our Clubman's?

Does Allstate, Farmers, State Farm, AAA and/or Progressive write this stuff??

Am I gonna need a million-plus umbrella policy too?

I live in Peachtree City Georgia.  We sport the largest number of privately owned golf carts in the US. (I think) I have my cart insured for replacement value with State farm. I think it runs ~$200.00 yearly BTW replacement value is around $3700.00  Yes people do insure them.

It's liability insurance, not insurance on the golf cart, probably.  You may be covered under some existing policy if you check.  I know up here I had insurance on my scooters even though they rarely got driven on-road, since if you hit someone/thing and cause injury/damage, you're on the hook.  Makes you think twice about getting fit and just walking!

What Ocean Lakes requires is liability insurance so if you hit someone or something it will be paid for. There are so many carts there they are trying to protect themselves from lawsuits. You also have to be a licensed driver to operate a cart in Ocean Lakes. I use State Farm as well for my Club Car.

We carry it on our homeowners. only about $ 40 per year. Best I remember they need 50k liability. Insurance company didnt even ask where cart was? We keep two at Ocean lakes.

RJ,

if you can afford to have a golf cart, which is a totally unnecessary device to avoid walking off the breakfast or lunch as you should do, while you drive around the small area of the campground, or play 18 holes at the country club then it's no big deal to spend a few bucks on insurance ;-).

i don't know anything about insurance, but i do know that's what i was told about buying a golf cart.  healthy, lose weight, gain stamina or some such blarney when i suggested it to my wife.  ;D ;D

Foremost Insurance Co. insures golf carts, at least they do in Az. :)
Used to own a 1968 MCI 5A and a 1977 5C.

Tom, walking off the breakfast is a great idea and we approve of the idea of being physically fit, however, where does the handicapped person come into the picture, if a person has a problem walking any distance a cart certainly comes in handy.  Most campgrounds that allow golf carts also require some sort of liability insurance.  A golf cart isn't recognized as a mobility device and as such normally can't carry the placard legally but they sure do make it easier to move around. Of course, there can be nothing as scary as a blue haired lady with a golf cart and a martini in one hand and her eye on that old retired banker on the three wheeled bicycle.

In addition to the liability insurance you will have to purchase a permit from Ocean Lakes at a cost of 50.00. That was the rate last year. te campground rents carts for around 300.00/week

I don't remember the $50.00 and I got a permit sticker for a year at Ocean Lakes. Of course that was 4 years ago and I only remember what I want to!!   ;D
