I am driving from Palm Springs to Quartzsite tomorrow for the rally.

I want to show off my roofdeck project and my genset-between-the-steer-tires project :)

Is it worth the extra two hours to take the scenic route past the Salton Sea down to I8, then up through the desert on 95?

Or, better to just take I10?

I appreciate your thoughts.

I am bringing my mom, thus the scenic route.

If I were bringing your mom, I would take the scenic route also. ...Cable

Scenic route.   Take the 111 along the east side of Salton Sea.  The west side (86) is hard to see the lake from the road.  Turn east onto the 78 in Brawley and it will drop you at the 10 in Blythe.  This route takes you across the sand dunes in Glamis.

It's been a few years since I've driven it,  but I think it is no problem to take a bus up the hill from Glamis to Blythe.

You make certain that if you drive thru Glamus or any other of the desert locations mentioned that you verify that the desert regions WILL NOT have high winds conditions.  You can frost up a windshield and lights in short order if the wind kicks up even if you are stopped.  Even I 8 is a bad deal if there is a big blow.

That would be bad, I did not know that.
