hardy board screws

friend shared with me today he used regular steel screws in his hardy board and it fell off wall screw heads were gone! He learned and shared with me the need to use coated screws that the thin set has chemicals in it that will eat steel.I was about to use regular dry wall screws! lesson learned before I messed up.  Bob

I like the hardy board screws, they will countersink automatically to keep the head flush with the board. I just used them to install the board for our grantie countertop. 

Drywall screws are good for.....well, drywall! They tend to snap for other uses....Don't ask me how I know!

Why screws galvanized roofing nails were used on backer board long before the designer screws came on the market ? I can pop a piece of 3x5 board up easy that has been screwed down nailed down is not so easy

going into osb board. 1/2 hardy board.over 3/4 inch osb. nail or screw and what pattern? 6 inch grid?

Screws. Especially if it's in the bus.

And use the screws designed for Hardibacker. Larger head, larger screw threads, countersinking, and coated.
