Insulated shades

My Shorty has shades and drapes.  I have removed both - removing the curtains (draw type) really has "opened" up the interior.  I do not have double pane windows so insulated shades are the words of the day.  According to warm shades web site, the shades will increase the window R value to 7, which I do not believe.  But the construction of the material should make a difference.  Took Shorty over to my sisters, and she measured the windows and is going to make the shades for me.  She is going to start and finish the two for the bedroom and we will trial fit, and trial fit the fastening techique.

I looked at this site and the "other" site and the insulated shade scenario seems to be the way to go.

Any comments.

I will have before and after pics when complete, hopefully the after will look better  :)

Chuckd;
Try "Anna's Linen's" on Line. For less than 100.00 we got foam backed UV 84" curtains that the wife cut down and sewed a loop at the top. I cut 1/2" conduit and screwed it to the 1x1 piece of wood that holds out the trim over the windows and covers the top of the curtains. She made simply Ty backs with Velcro to hold around curtains when not in use. Col the bus down a bunch. We have all windows on our 5C.

         We used a double honeycomb pleated shade from Penneys. I don't have any idea what the R value is, but there is a tremendous difference in the lack of  heat transfer down here in the Yuma sun.    Good  Bus'n  Wilbur

Double cell shades have a R value of 5 double pane RV windows have a R value of 2.7 tops  so compare the 2 along with the price of Motion windows  .

Just Blinds in Houston have those on sale right now,We used the warm windows covers in one conversion I liked those better than the double pane windows but each to own

good luck

Cody;

Very perceptive my friend. I put them at most  windows and a few scrachers at cabinet corners. The Kids love them. Bo-Ling (mom) Mo her daughter and Larry the son. They are Rag dolls. Act similar to Dogs as in, they chase balls and bring them back. The mother carries a ball in her mouth sometimes even in the middle of the night making a wa-wa-wa noise and then drops them for you to through. It is a crack up!  Here are pictures of the kids and their new hanging cat bed made from a wire shoe rack I turned up side down and hung with chain and D hooks.

We live on a creek and near a park that idiots (excuse me as I call them) drop off there unwanted animals and then they follow the creek until they find our house. We catch them, take them to a very nice Vet that fixes them for free and then we rehab them in our house for 2 days in cages and then let them go. Will eventually cut down on the population hopefully. We used to get help with food but all the societies are having problems right now so we put it out ourselves. When we move into the bus we have a group that will take over the feeding duties with the 20 that are here now.

liked Cody link..never thought of window coverings R-Factor..we have roman shades that Judy put lining and thin insulation on back.Also put a 18" strip of mirror tint inside side windows at top that seamed to reflect lots of sun's heat..Learned from your post  Thanks   Bob

I've used that site as a ball park reference for quite a while and feel that it's fairly close or about as close as can be established concidering how many variables can crop up, we often see questions here about R values so just thought it might be helpful in some way.

Cody, I like that site also that is where I got info on double pane windows now maybe these guys can see what difference a 500 dollar window gets you or a 100 dollar shade Jeff will never tell you the R value of his windows the ones on that site are for houses RV'S windows are going to have less of a R value.
I think Jeff's windows are less than 1 with the test I have done but people keep buying lol
Doing a conversion today I would not waste the money for double pane windows like I did on my Eagle just buy sliders and use covering or cell blinds would be my way

One thing I have noticed, I switched from single to thermopane, is they do seem to deaden the road or traffic noise quite a bit better but good thermal shades do wonders as far as increasing the R value.  And I agree that when your dealing with 500 bucks a pop for motion windows I feel they are very much over priced, I find the ones I get from surplus places to be a much better value, mine cost me only 20 bucks each, but they had the thermopane windows mixed in with the double paned windows so I had to sort thru them, there is a big difference between thermalpane and double pane but the website doesn't address the R values of thermopane.  I prefer argon gas over just a dead air space between the panes.
