Again I need engine advice - 8V71T industrial?

OK, so I found, almost literally down the street from me, a brand new, as in factory spare part, 8V71T industrial motor. I need to know if it can be set up to run in an automotive application. I have the governor from my engine to swap on if need be.

What do you think? If I had the engine serial number, can anyone tell me anything about it?

First you must make sure the engine is the same clock wise or CCW.

Should work if you swap your automotive governor for the industrial governor. Also, you'll have to remote mount the turbocharger and possibly enlarge your radiator. Also maybe run a larger air cleaner and for sure a new exhaust system. See if you can pop one of the valve covers to see what injectors it is running-for your application and a non aftercooled 8V-71T, should be no larger than 75 injectors. Sometimes industrial engines will have much larger injectors since they don't run as many hours. Good Luck, TomC

Thanks tom. The gentleman who has it says it is rated at 350 hp, it is 8VA-393165, model 7083 7395, right hand rotation which should be good for an MCI. It comes with an 8V71N out of a truck with a 13 speed so I should have the flywheels and governors from that engine to use if needed.

That will be a good engine for you, very little change over.It will depend on the gov. as to weather you need to change it or not.

You will have to change the bell housing, back plate and move some drives around to work in a MCI

thank you. I feel pretty good about this. I figure I have all the drives, the bell housing and back plate from my current engine to swap over, so I hope I will be in good shape. Going to see it tomorrow morning... can't wait! Not at all sure what I am going to do with a second (or third if you count my engine in the bus) engine with a 13 speed something on it...

Well Brian if your shop is big enough it shouldn't be a problem

I have three 6V71's and a one 8V71 sitting around my shop waiting for whatever I'm gonna do

you haven't heard about my NEW shop - or shops... I was back down in Nova Scotia to close on the tatamagouche house just last week. Two buildings, concrete floors, insulated and heated (if I buy the heating oil, which may never happen), 20 foot ceilings, and 3500 square feet each! I bet I have indoor parking for 6 buses if I tried! So exciting!

Yes I remember your post on the "new Place" congratulations on the closing.

No problem storing the extra engines then

Switch that oil burner to burn WMO ( waste motor oil ) Lots of conversions done successfully.

I have over 2000 gallon storage capacity when I complete my switch over. perfecting the filtering and mixing capabilites)

Another benefit to changing oil regulaly constant supply

If electricity doesn't run much over a dime a KWH, a modern heat pump will let you heat for around 1/3 the cost of oil. Check them out!

This is for when you don't have enough waste oil to keep your shop warm.

Apparently I already have tenants... I''m at the real estate agent, she says " I can still store my boat there, right..." "sure no problem, just talk to Dana..." I go to meet with the insurance agent - "I can still store my boat there, right..." "Sure, same deal as always, just talk to Dana..." I go to meet with the lawyer to sign the papers - "I can still store my boat there, right..." At this point I'm wondering just how many BOATS this place will hold!

Don't get too excited until you see the rental rates. When we bought our place east of Nipawin it came with stored cars and snowmobiles belonging to the local Chrysler dealer. The previous owner was apparently happy with the rates but when I saw what they were paying for covered storage I raised the rates significantly. So significantly that they moved out shortly afterward.
