I'm intrigued by this idea, but aside from Steve I have never heard of a non-turbo 8V92.  What is involved in making an 8V92N out of a turbo version?  Just plumbing and change the injectors?

I would have to ask the same ? I would think and Iam a nobody when comes to DD but wouldn't make it a smoke belchin low powered hunk of steel ? I think that would be a good ? for Clifford  ;D

That type of engine is built to run equipment, don't ask me what...that I'll leave to the DD Yodas  ;D

Why would I want to?  Same form/factor as the existing 8V71, but with 365 hp and 1050 ft lbs, and non-turbo (stock turbo locations don't fit into a MC-5C engine bay so anything with a turbo is custom one way or another).  Maybe a simpler swap, less fabricating and expense than turboing a 8V71 or adapting a 6V92.  Just find the idea interesting, is all!  I've talked to Steve and he is quite impressed with his 8V92N in his MC-5B.

I see your reasoning, but if I had your skill set, it'd take a lot to talk me out of a turbo. Without it, you loose power with elevation &, more importantly, you loose some efficiency.

And, 6V92Ts seem to be readily available . . .

Interesting exercise to ferret out the details tho. . . .

That's makes sence , I like the idea of thinking outside the box ,so to speak . I guess I never thought about it that way lol I know if I didn't have a turbo on mine I could at least see my motor  ;D

The 8V-92NA is a rare bird for on road applications.  It was never used in trucks-just fire trucks and some buses (not sure it was even certified for on road use).  It has higher compressions pistons then the turbocharged engine- 19:1 compared to 17:1.  I believe they used 75 or 80 injectors.
Personally, if I had a 5, I would swap out and use the 6V-92TA with HT740 in a heart beat.  Great combination-makes for the same power but with all the advantages a turbocharged engine has.  Good Luck, TomC

They also use 1.05 liners and straight up camshafts. If you would like to do that give methe serial # from the engine and I will see what I can find for you.

When I worked for DD I overhauled only one 8V92N.  As I recall, it used different cams than the turbo version and had a gear reduction for the blower.  The gear reduction units were problamatic and caused many failures in this engine.
