Readybrake question

Has anyone installed the Readybrake on a Honda Element?  I have the tail/stop light wiring in now and the next phase is to drill through the firewall for the brake cable.  Easier said than done.  I'm not finding a clear location to drill the hole.  The engine side of the firewall has "stuff" attached to it.  Things that I sure don't want to drill through accidentally.  Of course the area is absolutely the worst place to see, much less get a big set of fingers there to work.

No doubt I'm preaching the choir when it comes to "difficult locations" to work.  I just thought maybe someone has already "done that" with the Honda Element.  OK ... hold my hand while I whine about this puny little project.

I' m about to tackle the job today.  The big pucker factor (for me at least) is drilling the initial test hole in the firewall.  I can use a mirror to see the engine side of the firewall at a point that I think the drill will come through.  A bit of deviation (up to 1") may be OK.  Things sure are tight under there.  Back "in the day" I could almost crawl in the engine compartment of a my faithful '56 Chevy to do repairs.  <sigh>  I sure miss that car.

You might have to pull the engine and drivetrain to work on the dash, but that's no big deal

Job completed!  No tears, just a few "bad words" to help things go smoothly.  Looking back I wish I lived in a state that issues only rear license plates.  The license plate area up front sure would have been a keen place to bring my brake cables through.

One concern about the ReadyStop cabling was finding non-critical placement so if/when it gets yanked due to a failed hitch, the cable won't take out brake lines, fuel lines, etc.. I know it is a one-time safety thing that will have to be re-installed if it gets used, but just like a parachute ... it better work right the first time.

Tomorrow we will hook the car to the bus and see if things work as planned.  Would be nice to just keep driving south until we hit good weather.
