Got call wed nite.Dad is bus ready to go:answer yes why? got call from Antique Engine and tractor show the guy that was going to saw is broke and we have 800 to 1000 4th graders coming tomorrow (Thursday) for pioneer days. So he loaded Steam engine (already winterized) and I fired up bus and all had a great time..Beautiful weather..will spend rest of weekend there sawing...nice to have bus..it seems to touch our lives in ways we never realize..By the way bus was ready and excited to go just like a little kid to play ground..or was that me?   Bob            1905 Huber 16hp (boiler hp) Steam Engine

Jack goes to a steam thing in florida from time to time, I remember when we still had some old steam locomotives parked on the rails in places up here, don't know what ever happened to them but there were a few locomotives and some old wood cars that were just sitting in places slowly sagging, there was a caboose that the roof had fallen in on, thats now a camp a couple of miles from the skanee house, not quite sure how they got it there tho but it's cool they saved it, still a few things that survived the years at least somewhat lol, out by the mouth of the huron river there was an old bulldozer on a side road that had a bunch of heavy metal plate and a 30 calibre machine gun or at least what was left of one sticking out a hole, I was told that was an early attempt at building a tank back in the 20's.  No 4th graders in the skanee school this year, they only have 3 students total, the school is K-6th grade lol.  Not many people in the whole Upper Penninsula, less than what you would expect in a normal town, maybe around 150K in the whole UP, people don't stand very close together up here lol, there is 40 miles of nothing behind the skanee house until you reach the next sign of people lol.  Used to be a few steam engines they called Donkey Engines, those ran things like like log loaders and stuff like that, I think those have pretty much crumbled into the ground by now too.  The UP is the size of many east coast states and you can go a long way between houses but it's kinda cool that way lol.   http://centria.wordpress.com/2009/10/25/backwoods-adventure-to-the-million-dollar-railroad/    Just for grins, this is about my area, the pic in the blog where the car has the hood up is the end of my driveway in skanee, Barry Drue is the editor of the local newspaper, The L'Anse Sentinal and cathy is his wife, old friends of ours, the paper is online now, see how modern we all are lol.  As a side note of interest to nobody, yesterday there was a massive pile of bear poop about 4ft outside the sliding glass doors going out from the bedroom of the skanee house lol.

It's over : bus tucked away awaiting next adventure...Steam engine on wash rack,will clean up tomorrow and winterize for the last time this year! Bought a binder at show..looks like to much work for a old guy! Now back to bus building.  Bob

Bob,
I'll go on record here. You have two very serious afflictions. Steam and Bus. This is not good. I've sought help for similar afflictions to no avail. All that happens is I meet more nice people and learn more interesting things. (wish I lived closer)
