Need advise on converters/chargers

Hi. I need some advise on converters. On my conversion I've kept some of the parcel racks and fluorescent lighting and I'd like to install a converter to power the interior 24 volt lighting when on generator or shore power. Unfortunately my inverter runs off a 12 volt house battery bank which is charged either by the coach start battery's equalizer or the inverter's charging circuit. My question is this: can I use a 24 volt battery charger to do this? I was thinking I could hardwire a battery charger to the start batteries and the charger would basically power the circuits I want powered and charge the house batts when needed. Or, I could get a 24 volt power supply and do the same thing but it wouldn't have the smart charging capabilities. Basically, would a decent battery charger such as a Vanner or something like a forklift or floor scrubber charger with suitable capacity be able to sustain a constant load such as a lighting circuit?

Your question left me a bit confused, but it sounds like you want to power up some 24 volt lights from your 12 volt house battery system.  If your current load requirement is low, I would use one of these:  http://store.solar-electric.com/12to24or24to.html

It is a neat box, I have one installed to power up my trailer light converter.  It is a 12 volt to 24 volt converter, or a 24 volt to 12 volt converter, or a 24v/12/ equalizer.  20 amps at 12 volts or 10 amps at 24 volts.  Very versatile, good quality.
