On www.govliquidation.com there is a MC-8 for sale in Oak Harbor Washington. Looks to be pretty good. Event 5418, Lot 8652 Do a search of MC-8 and it will pop up.

Looks to be pretty straight, though there could be rust issues. Appears to be missing a battery door. Mileage is unreliable, but being a gov bus could be accurate. Turbo motor, but manual transmission. If I were looking for a bus and were near there, I'd definitely go look at it. 1978 was a good year for 8's.  That was probably one of the last 8's built.

Probably a 6V-92TA.  Problem with sitting for so many years is that the 92 series with their wet cylinder liners do have a real chance of leaking coolant down into the crankcase.  I would pull the dipstick to see if there is any coolant in the oil.  Personally-, I would do a tear down and replace the seals for peace of mind.  Good Luck, TomC

did anyone read down to the actual value?  $45,000   wonder what their smoking?

That's not actual value, it's acquisition value, which also doesn't make much sense.  It had to have been worth a lot more than $45,000 new in 1978.
