I know that most all 8v71's and some early 8v92 engines are painted Detroit Diesel "Alpine Green" but some of the later 8v92's are "silver" hence the Silver Series. My question evolves around the fact that while I will soon be changing out my radiator and have pretty good access to my engine to power wash etc., what color is the actual color for the SILVER Series Detroit? When I purchased my coach, the previous owner had painted it Alpine Green but most of it has come off. I know the silver is not just plain silver but more of a flat gray silver but does anyone know the EXACT color?

Thanks....

Oil Leaks BK? What is that? I haven't leaked OR used a gallon of oil in the last year and that includes the long trip I made this summer to SC.
Ever since we (John, Joe and I) went thru and fixed breather hoses, slobber tubes etc., it doesn't leak, use or smoke what so ever! I think it's something as little as routine maintenance.
As for power washing the engine, its to get off the two different colors of paint that was put on by the previous owner which is a mixture of green and silver and re-paint it with the proper color using a spray gun, not rattle can!

I think Dallas has helped me with the proper color on the other board as usual but thanks anyway guys!!

Paint it whatever color suits you!

The only time you need a color code is to attempt to match something, but your completely repainting?  Right!

Its not like your going to bolt on a part with a different color in the future.......

Actually Jack your pretty close! I am contemplating a swap for a 4 stroke and when I remove my 92 series I want to paint it for re-sale but don't tell anyone!  ::)

Not a compensated spokesperson...

I prefer the VHT Flameproof system.  You use a white (flat) primer coat, Aluminum or Silver (flat) colored base, and a high-temperature clear satin sealer.  This system requires proper curing though (they mention it can be done on-engine and installed - not just in an oven).  Nice thing about this paint system is that it survives 2000F - so you can use it directly on the turbo and headers without it burning off...

Can be purchased at Summit Racing, Napa, Kragen (O'Rielly), AutoZone, etc...

Cliff, I'm an equal opportunity picker oner but i just haven't seen a scenic on the highway since I was 5 lol, except for pats 'big red', now that was impressive watching that roll into jacks rally.  I remember when I was young they had a scenic that was the hound that picked up people in our area, I really kinda liked it but never got a chance to ride in it.

jackhartjr

You know Cody, that is a pretty close assessment, I did see one down in south Georgia a while back though.

Cody they weren't making them yet when you were 5! They didn't start making them in the '20's the first one was 30 yrs later in 1954! ;)
