Help: I just started my bus to take it for a test drive.After about 5 seconds it stalled and would not restart. Looking around I realized that the fuel had leaked out of the water seperater. How do I go about priming and restarting my 8-71?> thanks in advance        mike

I carry a manual pump with me..some use elect spliced into line...easiest to try is fill both filters with fuel.and keep fingers crossed...Good luck!

Fill the filters. Crank to start. Manually throttle up the speed to carry through the gasps and stumbles. You may have to do a couple of times.
I hope you have good batteries.
As noted above, many people install an electric pump for these instances when you run out of prime.

I use a 2 gallon plastic garden sprayer with fuel in it. Remove wand from hose, screw an appropriate fitting into the spare hole in the filter housing, hook the sprayer hose to the fitting, pump the sprayer, and start the bus. Once the bus starts release the pressure in the sprayer. The fuel pump will refill the sprayer tank to whatever level you want. Shut down the engine, remove the fitting from the filter housing, put the plug back in the filter housing, and restart the engine. You should be good to go. Then try to figure out why your engine lost prime and repair the problem.

well i tried using the spray bottle method,and got the bus started. the problem i am having is that it will only run for a minute or so.It does not seem to be able to prime the main fuel line. Am i still doing something wrong,or is there some where I can bleed the fuel pump?

If your fuel line is empty from the tank, you have a lot of air to get rid of. The one time this happened to me, we had to pressurize the tank to get fuel in the line. We took an air pig with an air gun on the hose, put it in the tank and surrounded it with a rag to partially seal up the fill pipe. Loosen the filters and give it a little air. It doesn't take very much pressure to fill the line. When the line is full, fuel will bleed out of your loosened filters and you are ready to go. Make sure you don't put very much pressure in your tank. if the fuel doesn't flow easily, you may have a blockage in your line. Of course this is assuming you have enough fuel in the tank. I only let this happen once. Ha Ha.

made a temp fuel line before filter  and put it in a 5 gal fuel can got it running good on its own and reattached fuel line..also one other time had to replace transfer pump..good time to change fuel filter also...

Well, thanks guys. I pressurized the tank and bled out the fueel lines, and she fired right up.

Mike,

Be very careful about pressurizing fuel tanks, they don't tolerate much pressure. When this happened to me I detached the fuel line at the tank and pumped from there.
