Speed governor question

My bus ( NJT MC9, 1987 6V92 DDEC) has a governor on it limiting the speed to 64mph. Granted, that is plenty fast enough but sometimes Id like a little more speed for passing, approaching hills, etc. I understand there is an EPROM (sp?) that controls the speed and that I can possibly switch that out and have no governor. Can anyone shed any light on this for me ?

So, in conversation at the Northeast gtg, Kevin mentioned that he remembered the NJT's going 72. so, on my trip home, I noticed that the speedometer did in fact sit at 72, but the speed off my gps and the radar signs at construction areas both read 64. I'm guessing that the governor is getting its info from the spedo and thinks I'm doing 72 ?? Anyone

Usually the engine governor and speedo are separate.  So the engine is in fact set at 64mph (done with rpm in high gear).  Just need to have it reprogrammed for full rpm in high gear-then off you go!! Good Luck, TomC

It's my understanding that the speedometer on the MC-9 is driven electrically from the left front wheel, and has nothing to do with the engine speed at all.  That's from the MC-9 manual.  I have an MC-9 speedometer in my MC5 and it reads about what yours reads, a little fast, not quite as fast as yours.  Mine reads 65 at 60.  I add 10%, basically.

No idea about how to reset the governor (or the DDEC2 equivalent) on your engine.  It needs to be reprogrammed but how or who, I don't know.  Maybe it needs to be done by Detroit Diesel.
