Are you sure they are going to outlaw them for motorhomes?  Whatever the law, it probably effects commercial users and not us.
You don't have to believe everything you think.

This topic has been discussed a lot. They are only talking about commercial vehicles, not motorhomes/busconverisons. Of course that is always subject to change in California! ;)

This came from the search tab, upper left. Search words were California Air Resource Board, CARB for short.

I live in California, and work at Los Angeles Freightliner where we have two guys that do nothing but smog laws for mapping out buying strategies for companies in the future.  I am doing a truck conversion to a motorhome, and have a '77 bus with a 8V-71TATAIC.  I have asked these guys this exact question.  The simple answer is, if it is an RV and a single use vehicle, you're exempt from smog laws (not if you use it for commercial use [Jim Sheppard?]).  As they put it, do you think RVIA and AARP would allow the government to jeopardize the retirement dreams of thousands of retirees?  Believe me, this was a real relief to me-rather then stressing over having to do an engine exchange ($$$$$) and add all the electronics and smog control devices that would be needed.  Good Luck, TomC
