It is just me or did I just dream it all up? There seems to be a thread missing without any explanation. ???

There should always be an audit trail...for us too.  But this is the biz of the "owners". What they decide is OK with me when I learn what that might be.  Till then, it is up for discussion....I think.

Thanks,

John

That thread was transitioning from a discussion of what happened, to a debate and was sliding into confrontation.  There has been too much of the latter lately.  This whole issue started with a conflict between two members.  We don't want to multiply it.  Enough damage has been done already.

So it was locked and then moved offline for moderating team discussion and decision on it.

Mike,

I and I think Mud and everybody else agrees with you completely.  I and Mud think there should have been something left to indicate that action was taken.  And for Mud....that he didn't imagine it.  Speaking for myself I was pretty sure I didn't.

Any damage done is more than enuf.  In this case, I don't see where two people were having a disagreement but I don't have your experience at spotting that on the horizon.  Thank you for your service and I'll wager I am not alone in that sentiment.  To all the mods, actually.

Aw crap.  I had another senior moment.  Lately it has been senior weeks.  I was talking about Muddog but it was Barn Owl that was in this mix.  Sorry Mud Dog....Sorry Barn Bird....sorry Mike.

Now, can we get back to back biting?  Whew, all these distractions.

Strongly agree with that statement.

QuoteI don't see where two people were having a disagreement

Agree again.

Really? I must have woke up on a different planet today. I see the elephant, and I feel that the reason given is a cover for something bigger going on behind closed doors. Why do I say that? I have never seen such drastic actions taken before, even on topics which have caused a much greater stir, and all this lockdown done without the slightest explanation? I can understand having to do a round table, but I think making the thread completely disappear was a poor way of buying time till everyone figures out what to do. We read it, and any damage control at this point is well, pointless.

People who are perpetually unhappy or offended will always seek out and find a way to fulfill that need and way of being. Wiping out threads will only reset the trigger and force us to relive this over and over again. Set the precedent now and you will have to deal with everyone who feels they get a little thumping wanting threads pulled. I can hear it now...You play favorites because you didn't do it for me!.....You did it for _____!......etc. I think you can see how this is wrong, wrong, and more wrong and could easily spiral out of control, don't go there. Now one could argue that threads that do not promote bus conversions would be OK, and I would agree to a point, but we were talking about someones vindictive choice to wipe out hundreds of posts directly relating to buses. I think when you post on a public forum such a this one, those post are no longer your personal intellectual property, it becomes the board's. The actions were purposely done to do damage to the board and the whole bus community. It was a selfish act and it's that simple, we are not talking about some innocent bystander. Remember, you can choose you choice, but you cannot choose your consequences. If you are to maintain the integrity of the this board, you will have to let people sleep in their own beds. Don't let one poor choice lead to another.

That being said, when this blows over we should not look back, and if that individual wants to rejoin us and gets over whatever is going on there, and accepts the initial awkwardness that will surly be felt here. I will be the first to welcome them back in full fellowship. We need that person's knowledge just as much now as we did then. Just don't do this again....OK?

It is a good point that I should have posted a brief note explaining that it had been pulled.  I apologize for not putting a post in its place to explain.  The basic reason is that after two days and 3 pages it wasn't winding down, it was reving up with more conflict over the issue. It was clear what was about to happen in the thread and that is not good for the forum community.  You are correct, it was nothing like on countless other forums.  But we also have no intention of letting it slide down in that direction.  As Lee stated, just because a lot of other parts of the web are like that doesn't mean that it should be here.

As for a hidden reason.  Nope, no hidden agenda.  It can take a full day or more for all members of the moderating team to get a chance to chime in on a discussion.  In public, that would be a day for it to brew as more people read or reread the points and took sides in it.  This wasn't a thread that started out talking about tires and then skidded off a virtual ledge.  From page one on, this was a thread criticizing another member.  Then it started polarizing viewpoints and those on each side of the issue were squaring off, by page three it was up to one member against another, neither of whom had been a part of the original fracus.  Not the sort of thread that needs to be on the board.

Personal conflicts, arguments, attacks, belittlement, snide comments, etc. have been on the rise again.  It comes and goes in cycles and it has definitely come back around and it is definitely time for it to go.  Some of the most knowledageble people are reluctant or refuse to post and/or no longer even read the forum.  Some of the people that need the most information are reluctant to ask.  The forum community loses big time when those with the most expertise don't post and it limits the future of the forum when anyone is afraid to ask a question.

The moderating team doesn't want to "crack down" and make people uncomfortable.  But we have had discussions about the need to stop the trainwreck threads before they get that far down the track.

Barn Owl

Political correctness will cause you to loose the greatest number of all. This was not the normal run-of-the-mill problem. How long do you think this board will survive if we wipe out hundreds of posts every time we think we have been offended, without consequence, and with the aid and cover of moderators? People need to learn to stand up for themselves and tell others the line has been crossed, and give the accused offender an opportunity to clarify or apologize. Everyone here knows I have been on both sides of it. People need to relearn that there is shame for doing the wrong thing, but there is also forgiveness, not easy but possible. If what you said is correct then I feel the decision was incorrect. We need a civilized board, no argument here, but too much oversight is just as damaging as not enough. We are learning that through our government. There, I changed the subject.

Hightech,

At the end of the day this is your baby and you run it however you see fit. All that above is just my opinion, and whatever decision you make is the way it is. Ownership has privilege unless you become "too big to fail". ;)

This thread shpuld follow the other one. Both are a waste of archive space and contribute nothing to the purpose of this board.

Hi yo silver

I very much agree with Barn Owl.  Could have said it as eloquently myself.  Ya gotta be responsible for what you post.  Once it's printed out somewhere, it's potentially archived somewhere, right?  What are you doing up so early anyhow, BO?

We need this BB, and we need our archives!  ...Maybe it's the heat.

Wait, wait!  I meant "could'nt have said it".  I meant "couldn't".  This thing needs an eraser.  Can I just delete that post.  And while I'm at it, I think you guys are making fun of me....

Dennis, You can go into any of your posts and modify them. Sometimes my Post finger gets too quick and I have to go back and modify it for spelling, grammar etc..
