Craig,

What an adventure!

As one who as also seen the "smoke in the bedroom" in a previous experience, I know the strange sort of crazy relief to finally know where its coming from during those initial moments of concern. (panic)

Glad you found the gremlins and sharing mishaps, though sometimes painful  ;), is a tremendous help to the uninitiated.

And to paraphrase Mark: "Lots of grounds getting checked out there"

Thanks for the report.
It falls into the 'dummy check'. Well, dummy, what did you just do that I should check. If I'm likely I can get a friend to check the latest install. If not I have to dummy check my own work. Not easy.
I changed out the house batteries last week, six 8D's 225AH. Took the bus to the battery shop and they had a young strong mechanic to help me. I disconnected and he changed out the batteries. Before I made the last connection on both the positive and negative I asked the mechanic to check all connections for correct orientation and tightness. Everything was OK. Hated to pull the batteries as they were only three years old but the shop had very low time AGM batteries at 250AH for $100. No more watering. :D

Again Craig thanks for sharing. Your story will, hopefully, eliminate the "Of course I didn't forget anything."
