New Dinette Table

I have been working on a new dinette table for the past few weeks and finally got it installed yesterday.  It is solid mahogany, I left it natural and put a laquer finish on it.

That is very nice indeed!  I do like the more natural finish on the mahogany - does it darken with age and sunlight the way cherry does?  Our table is two thirds of an antique-ish drop-leaf table, made of solid quarter-sawn white oak.  leaf drops - lots of room to move around and you still have a 14" wide table that was the center section, leaf up and you have a nice big dining table.

Nice looking table!  Question here.........does the table support post slip into a bracket that is attached below the flooring?   And the flooring tile or granite is nice looking too.........well laid out!

It has been about a month since I surfaced the mahogany and it is darkening up nicely so far.  I really wanted to go natural with this table since I had this beautiful piece of wood. Now I have to get back on more important projects.

The post sits in a bracket mounted below the tile. I had a pic of it somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.

Thats what we used to call 'rope' mahogany, it's one of the nicest woods to work with and takes an awesome finish, you've got a table to be proud of.  Libby made me redo her kitchen in the bus, it originally was oak but she stumbled upon a pile of rosewood I had hidden so the whine was on, I finally saved my rosewood by convincing her that mahogany would be far better and she agreed to go that way, I think her kitchen turned out great, hopefully she won't see your table, that'll set her off on a whole new round of work for me lol.
