I think it is important to define what is meant by "badmouthing".  Certainly we do not want pointless rants about personal enmities, but I do not think it is unreasonable for someone to report a bad, as well as a good, experiences with a particular company.  In the recent thread that has been locked, it looks as if the post may have nudged the problem toward resolution.  I can not see that as a bad thing.

Yes I always hope that is the situation and I am still waiting for that truck or phone call or email to tell me it is true. I hope it's not the old lost in shipment deal as I have heard that one before. I will be glad to post when and if it does arrive Jerry

I'm with ya Lin. I want to be able to find out people's opinion's and experience's about others and other companies. Isn't that what friends and family do?? ?? ?? That doesn't mean I wouldn't necessarily NOT use them, but just be aware and tread cautiously if I felt I needed what they had.
This forum has given me soooooooo much and I'd hate to have the, shall we say, "bad apples" taken out so we would all be vulnerable to getting taken. Hopefully there is some sort of decorum we can use, and then if we are truly bitter (I know I have been at times) we could tell others we can PM them with the full uncut version if they would like there their ears/eyes inflamed.

But I just gotta tell ya, I truly don't want this to be "Lotus Land". I want "the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God"  ;)  ;D  given by all. (seriously)

I hope the moderators come up with a policy that leans towards letting MOST everything in. Having info about bad situations is every bit as important as having good info.

I am sure the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

I know this sounds all sophisticated and upper level "dispute resolution" etc.  but it has always rankled me and consequently my professors and those that ran various seminars.  There DOES NOT HAVE TO BE ENOUGH BLAME TO GO AROUND.  One party certainly can be fully responsible.  BP is now asserting that PART OF THE PROBLEM is that the Gummint didn't inspect enuf.  Fox is really beating that drum.  Are Y'all feeling guilty and responsible and want to cough up some tax dollars to pay your dews?

I think that each investigation should stat with a lank slate and facts should be gathered with as much objectivity a humanly possible.  That to me means we start from the position that BOTH parties are equally blameless and innocent of wrongdoing.

The other one that rankled my soul was that ALL GOOD SOLUTIONS/RESOLUTIONS INVOLVE COMPROMISE ON BOTH SIDES.  HOOEY!   Tell that to the 60 year old woman raped on the steps of the church at 2 in the afternoon that she is going to have to compromise or that she must admit her culpability.  Pet peeves....can you tell?

The issue is if one badmouths someone how do we know if the truth is being told?  We usually only hear one side of the story.

If someone praises something they probably aren't going to lie about it unless they are being compensated to be a schill for the company or product.

That's why we hold off on making any decision and most certainly we make no judgement.   Only rarely do we ever have all the facts.  Aman I respected once told me that "a man shoould have no HEROS that have not been dead for at least 100 years cause it takes that long for all the facts to come out".  Though, surely not words I live by.

I have had the misfortune to work around people that were so manipulative that even praise had a ugly motive.  They praised more than a few hat lived to regret having been singled out.  There are truly some seriously distorted people out there.  Look up "Borderline personality" in your diagnosis reference for a really bad one.

Jim,

I'm not sure about that.  There would seem to be lots of evidence that there are bad people as well as good people.  I am sure though, that members of both groups are capable of doing crossover deeds once in while.  To paraphrase Gandhi, "Hate the sin, not the sinner."  would work since it does not require me to decide whether Stalin was bad or merely misguided.

John,

I'm with you.  There are times when one side is clearly in the wrong.  I have been scammed before.  The very definition of a scam would seem to support the concept that one party is at fault.  I am not commenting on the present case in question.  I do not know it was a scam.  I would rather think it was a misunderstanding.  Since it can be easily resolved, Mr Goodwin's deeds now can bare that out (great name in any case).

First I consider the source, what has my experience been with them, and on this BBS I may read there past posts.
You can learn a lot about someone by there reactions to various situations and questions.

Second, with the internet, I can usually find any and all complaints that may exist about a company.  If you treat someone bad they will spend the time to get the word out.

And in the situation that started this discussion, the Public Relations issue is already lost by the company, never, ever, settle a customer problem on a BBS.

No............ As they say "it takes all types to make the world go around" There ARE truely evil people in this world who are very selfish and feel/act like they are the only ones in the whole world who matter and think nothing of hurting others. Then there are also very giving and selfless people, and people who (I think most people are like this) fall somewhere in between and try to do achieve a balance.

The moderators are discussing this subject.  This is a tough call. While we want everyone to know about a business with questionable business practices, we are usually only hearing one side of the story and there are always 2 sides to the story.
I have seen threads where the poster was upset because of unreasonable expectations on his part and the business suffered PR wise because of it.
On the other hand, I have also seen threads that were legitimate poor business practices and letting the rest of our busnut community know about them was a good thing.
There are also financial considerations such as legal liability for false statements, lost advertising for BCM on one side and loss on money from busnuts using questionable businesses on the other hand.
My personal feeling is that situations like this should be handled off the BB between those involved.  Jack
