This weekend, more than any other, let us never forget that the price of our freedom, is paid in blood.  I live on an island that was taken from the Japanese in World War II. To this day there are reminders of the war all around. Three hundred seventy two Americans were killed at Kwajalein Atoll.  As Americans, we are very lucky not to have fought a foreign army on our shores.

Amen Brother! Memorial and Veterans Day are special to me, we should all be proud of those who have fallen before us protecting our Country!

Glad to hear from you Bill, it's been a while.

Yesterday was the awards ceremony for the students at the private school where I work. I set aside a piece of the wall to honor veterans, and to show respect to those who gave their lives so we can have a choice to have children in schools like this one.

It was well received, and I thank whomever it was (on this site) who sent out the story about Iwo jima, because that story was a part of the presentation, and caused more than a few tears to flow.

Thank you to those who serve and who served, and to those who gavethe ultimate sacrifice. Your service is honored and respected here.
For some, patience is a virtue.
Dealing with me, it is required.
Thank God - He is always patient.

Actually Bill, we fought the British twice on our shores.

I join all my fellow Veterans and thank all those among our ranks for their Service. Like most we will be observing Memorial Day with a cookout here at the RV Campground and will pay the appropriate honor to our Flag and those who have served and a prayer for those who didn't return.

I was, unfortunately, too young for Korea and too old for Vietnam. While I did serve my 2 years in Okinawa I didn't see, first hand, the tragedy and pain of that 'Nam war.

We still have our young people in harms' way in the Middle East. While I may not altogether agree with the reason for them to be there I will support them with my last breath.

Enjoy this Holiday weekend and remember that our Liberty and Freedom was fought for by hundreds of thousands of our best and it our responsibility to see that they didn't fight and die in vain.

Our greatest enemy is not now 'without' but 'within' and the vow we took those many years ago still applies today.

We must protect America for all enemies, both foreign and domestic.

Bob, the lack of an active involvement in a firefight doesn't diminish in any way your service to this country, you and thousands others serve each day by just getting out of bed in the morning and doing what is right and enjoying the freedom that so many take for granted, each day that I wake up I thank God for another chance to irritate somebody, in many countries around the world I would have been shot long ago, the very fact that I'm not in a labor camp, in prison or just plain dead is a living testimony to the fact that I'm free, your free, others that I may disagree with are free and we are able to express those viewpoints without fear of a knock on the door and the quiet ride off into the night, never to return, I thank God everyday for those that serve regardless of where or how.

Thank you to all vets and those still in the uniform. Thanks also to the families of those still serving. I was a scared high school kid during Viet Nam, hoping my number wouldn't come up when I graduated. I didn't understand about it 'til much later. We have gone to great lengths to train our kids to respect those that have and do serve.

We will be celebrating the holiday by singing during the program at the local Veteran's Home. National anthem plus 2 other songs, then a few more afterwards while the folks eat ice cream.

Thanks again, and God Bless America!
