Exhaust pipe disconnected from the muffler due to rusted exhaust pipe.
It's okay to run it like this for a couple hours correct?

Rick , Be careful that heat goes somewhere that can start something on fire. If that is not an issue I would think It would be OK. Which side of the muffler came off? Also if you can find a piece of tin and some wire make a temporary fix.

It will run better and stronger, and noisier without the restriction of the muffler. Heed Wayne's advice about the heat though.

Yes, be sure to shield that exhaust so it can't be diverted onto anything directly.

Since the pipe is finished, some self tapping screws and a couple of cut and flattened soup tins wrapped around the broken bits will make a nice shield.

If the exhaust is heading up into the engine room, crack the doors open and wire them loosely together so there's more airflow out.

Stopping a few times to be sure everything is staying cool enough back there is priceless.

I would imagine you could get the pipe headed into the muffler and use whatever wire you have to hold it in place to get the majority through the muffler and out the back.

Hey all
We are home! JD @ C&J coach gave me a brilliant temporary fix. I used a 5" band clamp to cover the rust holes and to reconnect the muffler and the inlet pipe back together. It worked great. I did pick up a new muffler inlet pipe from Fred at C&J today and I thanked JD for his timely advice. Thanks everyone and keep an extra band clamp in your spare parts drawer just in case.
