steering valve

i put bushings in my ross steering box. ifilled it up with lucas hub oil . i put on steering valve and the hub oil is seeping out the top of valve .is there a non leaking steering system ? also does it do any good to rebuild a steering cylinder to stop leaks?

I'm not sure what a Ross is, vs. whatever the one in my 82 MC9 is, but I rebuilt it with parts supplied by the local bus repair shop. It was leaking quite a bit before, and now it's not. Was definitely worth it.

They didn't leak when they were new. If it can be rebuilt, I can't imagine it wouldn't be worth the effort.

The problem with steering values, in my prior experience in rebuilding steering boxes, is that dirty oil would cause the teflon rings to wear grooves in the cast iron of the housing.  The wear was enough to prevent proper sealing and the control valve would "leak"

The fix was an aftermarket SS sleave. The control valve was bored out with a precision boring head and the sleave inserted in it's place to OEM diameter. 

End of leak problem!
