50 amp plug / outlet..

Has anyone ever been to a campsite that has a true 50 amps service that would accept a 50amp / 3 blade plus round pin plug.

yes....a few of them.

And a couple of times I have used my double 30amp Y to 50 amp adapter, to gain a bit more juice.

Yes.  They are increasingly common these days due to many of the newer RV's being set up for it.

Two 30's is actually still less than a true 50A hookup as that is technically 50A at 240V accross the two hot legs.  Which is also 50A on each of the two 120V legs as long as it is properly wired from two legs of opposing phase.

I should clarify.

I used the double-30 Y adapter where there was only 30 amp service available. Using the double Y effectively doubles the available power in the coach, although still at only 60% of the 50amp plug.

I wired my coach 50Amp to be able to use whatever is available at the pedestal...be it 50,30,20,or 15amps.

50amps is nice in winter, as we use electric cube heaters when we can. Otherwise, the Webasto keeps us toasty.

Ah, ok that makes good sense then.

I wired mine 50A for the same reason.  Whenever available it is great to have the full ticket with the two legs of 50 available.  I have a 30A adapter that takes a single pole 30 amp service and applies it to both legs on my 50 amp cord (I don't have any 240V items on board).  And for those really desparate times I have a 15A adapter that connects my 30A cord to a 15A service.

I too use portable electrics for heat, so I know what you mean there.  This winter we had some single digit nights and we were fine with two inside and one on low in the utility bay.

Koa Corprate as well as the Franchises have adopted only the Nema 14-50r plug for 50 amp service and nothing else...wich is 2 50 amp 120 legs a neutral and your ground! What other campgrounds do i can't tell you but i've seen some Scary sites on the road!

we do mostly camp grounds..with the exception of a few state and private we have encountered 50 amp service all the time..95%

Isn't the NEMA 14-50R the standard for 50 amp RV service?  KOA would be silly not to use NEMA 14-50R receptacles.

The campgrounds at our state fairgrounds still has mostly 20 amp service.  I believe they added some 30 amp or maybe 50 amp outlets recently.  The campgrounds is only open 3 weeks a year so they don't bring in a lot of money for upgrades.  They did have FMCA there in 2008, but the electrical service was all temporary as they needed many more spaces than just the campground.
