My new project

In my never ending quest for more space and novelty I've come up with a new project.
I moved the DD 8v71 from the rear to the space where the spare tire used to be and cobbled it to a transaxle from an old Toronado front wheel drive car thus making the bus front wheel drive.  This serves multiple purposes but the biggest being the gain of that space in the rear where the engine used to be. Now I can put in a rear window and I lose all of that heat generated by the engine back there in the bedroom. It also removes all that engine sound in the bedroom while the bus is underway. Now it should be quiet like a chapel back there!

Its IS your project, do what you want.  That being  said you really have to leave the rear engine installed.  You need  to consider all the benefits:

6 wheel drive, awesome traction both on the  ice, sand, and off the line (you will drag race it right?)

Reliability.  Sure you'll be twice as likely to have an engine failure, but imagine being able to continue blazing down the freeway at well above the posted speed with engine parts flying though the oil pan.

Better acceleration. You won't have to let one more taco truck around you in rush hour traffic.

Whole-House heat.  You'll be able to heat both the front  and  rear of the bus  while under way now! No more ridiculous plumbing.

Easier to work on. Having 2 of everything makes any job a breeze.

Better top end. You could gear one engine for acceleration, and the other for autobahn.

I'm sure the list could on, I know you'll make the  right decision and do whats safe a logical.  It's your bus though, do it your way

Man, that sounds like fun! Matter of fact, feeling a bit envious of all the time and cost it'll take to pull that off, plus putting on a big BBQ to celebrate the success with 50 people that show up to guzzle like fish while admiring the handiwork.  Get one of them to test drive it to earn their keep, ha. Yes, pics, very important for this one.

I'd have to be retired to do it, but sure sounds more entertaining that what I'm doing now

It's easier to move the bedroom up front than the engine. Plus, you can now take up the relaxing practice of driving while in bed! You might have to install a bed-belt to be legal, however.

Now you're onto something.  Move the driver station over the engine, throw in a couple of windshields, flip the ring and pinion, and off you go.

Just imagine the damage you could do with that swinging around the corners!!

Glad this day only happens once a year.

You'll need a stronger transaxle than the oldmobile one, get one from a Revcon, my revcon is already front wheel drive and is a race car, I can actually squeal the front tires leaving a stop sign lol. I did that in L'Anse and really messed with a local deputy, he said he wasn't going to write the ticket cause knowing me he's have to prove it in court lol.

Why not just change over to electric drive? The Milwaukee 24v. drills have tremendous torque are variable speed and the battery runs all day at full tilt. Just hook up 50 or 100 to the transmission shaft. Mini air pistons could operate the speed trigger. These drills including the batteries have a five year warranty.
