Towing Insurance Revisited

As noted in another thread, we had the fun pleasure of being towed home yesterday.

There have been a few threads on the subject, but I thought I would start a new one.

We have both Progressive and AAA heavy duty RV towing insurance.  Since we have had to have AAA tow our cars a couple of times in the recent past, I thought we would use Progressive.  They seemed helpful, but casually mentioned that our policy only covered 18 miles of towing and we were 100 miles away from home.  That would have left us with a huge bill.

Then we called AAA.  They could not have been nicer.  They sent out a large semi-type tow truck, but it did not have the reach to get to the suspension.  That towing company recommended a competitor that could do the job and made arrangements for AAA to contract with them.  They had great equipment and got us home.  They "adjusted"  the mileage to 98 miles and we did not have to pay anything.

AAA thanked us profusely for being long-time customers (since '64).  We have used them often during the past many years.  This was especially true when the girls were in school and driving beaters.  They may have given us special treatment, but I hear good things about AAA in general.
