I have to admit i'm with you it has cool lines! Although i don't see in the picture or mention of A/c.

Neat Find!

eric, nope, don't think it has an ac, sure can't see one in the pic. i just wonder if it's got any power with that 471 and what kind of fuel milage it gets. very interesting bus.

I gave that owner a set of fuel filters for that bus one time he lives around Elko Nv if my memory serves me right

The 4-71 is a great engine, but it doesn't have a lot of power. Now that mine is turboed, it drives comparably to a 40 footer with a 8v71. I go up the hills with the semis, the loaded ones anyway. I don't feel like I am holding up traffic as much anymore. I have about 14000 km (9000 m) on it now, and it keeps getting better all the time. I get 13 psi of boost now, from 8 the first day I took it out of the shop. I removed the intercooler, because I think it was part of the problem with the low boost. Maybe the intercooler was too small, or there were small leaks in the piping. The DD service manual shows the 4-71 T without an intercooler. I got 9 mpg (US) this last trip. It is governed at 2500 rpm, and I drive it with my foot to the floor all day, at 60 mph. You will do better if that West. Flyer is geared lower. They sure made beautiful bused in those days. You should get that one.

Here is what you have in the way of hp on a 471 great little engines 264 cubic inches
140 hp with n 60 injectors with a 4 valve head
160 hp + or- with 65 injectors with a  4 valve head
190 hp with turbo after cooler and  the 471 uses the same 4 valve head as a 8v71 in case you ever need one

good luck

Ah, the old Western Flyer. First bus I ever learned on and drove back when I was a "pup". As far as I remember it was a great bus, but then my memory does play tricks on me sometimes. Price seems not too bad compared to what they are asking up here in Canada. Here is an ad for one that is 13 years older

Just remembered, the one I drove had an "electric clutch". No pedal, just push the button below the shifter head. Maybe it was air, but for some reason electric sticks with me.....

Depending on weight a unblown 471 will be a snail, at least it has a 5-sp which is a big help.

Of course it depends on the bus weight too. My 22K lb (est) 4104 with a 671 is really slow but adequate for us old folks.

thanks all. that WF for $3500, is very cool so a 1960 all nicely done for $7,000 would be a great deal. ok, so  bigger injectors, turbo, what do ya all think that would cost. that engine is supposed to have 43,000 mi on it, so it could all be done in the bus. now my head is getting into it. lol. anything else need to be done so it can get out of it's own way.lol
