mc9engine replacement

Subject:1983 mc9 engine and trans replacement.  A friend needs a new engine and trans and doesn't want to go back with a Detroit. Is this doable? thanks

Yes. There was a man in OK that had a Cummins w/tranny for 4,500. I do not have a # but could forward his email.  Tom Y

The Cummins L10 is an ideal engine since it is mechanical and about the same power as the 6V-92TA-about 330hp and 1000lb/ft torque and you don't need to add an air to air intercooler.  Course, if you find a wrecked truck with a M11/ISM and Allison 4000 series, that would be prime just to buy the complete wrecked vehicle so to have all the wiring harnesses and such.  Personally-I like the size of the Cummins ISM.  The Caterpillar C10, C12 is also of this smaller size.  With any electronic engine, they will most likely have to add an air to air intercooler.

If you want to go really green- the new Cummins ISL (8.9 liter) is available up to 450hp and 1300lb/ft torque.  Course, this would be a new purchase, and in the $50,000.00 for the engine.  Good Luck, TomC
