Yes, not having much joy in northern IL either.  sigh.  $3.09.  45 cents/gal more than regular gasoline @ 2.64 or so.  Must really good diesel.   :-\   >:(

heyhey

we won't see diesel come down because of the higher cost of producing ultra low sulfer diesel.

simliar to when they brought out unleaded gasoline for the catalytic coverter, ultra low sulfer diesel is needed for the 2007 heavy diesels particulate filter.

they started making it in the summer and are flushing through the system so that the sulfer content at the pump is low enough before the engines come out

thank-you to the EPA for cleaner air but higher fuel and vehicle prices.

(dad told me what to write!) nananana niles! :P

Here's some more interesting reading about the subject: http://www.eia.doe.gov/bookshelf/brochures/diesel/dieselprices2006.html

The price of diesel is a combination of things the 2 primary ones are the low sulfer has to be in place by 2007 (that cost $) and another major factor is out of a barrell of crude not much is made into diesel (10% or less). Now if you look at the latter compared to the ratio of diesel powered vehicles you will find it is a supply and demand issue. During the 1990's to early 2000's a big boom in diesel vehicle sales could be seen, because diesel WAS cheaper than gas. ;D

Just pay attention and count all the diesel pickup trucks and suv's sometime. Also take into consideration that not many of those will get 20mpg or better. ;)
