Which ever way you go, the ultimate total amp hours is what's important.  The biggest (realistically) 12v battery is the 8D-which with Lifeline AGM is 255 amp hours-but also weighs 160lbs!  Then you have the 6V L16 battery (which is tall) that has 400 amp hours-but weighs 123lbs- alot easier to handle.  Depending on how much room you have will determine what battery you use.  In general, 6V deep cycle batteries will have more reserve power then 12v batteries.  Good Luck, TomC

Whichever voltage you go with, I would seriously look into AGM.  You might feel bad about the initial cost, but once your over that, you will be repeatedly happy.

 i have 6 trojan 6 volt in there now,4 are bad. in my kitchen i have 4 12 volt deep cycle that are not being used.  and i have zero cash to spend on more 6 volt batts.

Need more information such as amp/hour capacity of batteries you are looking at (both 6 & 12 volt) as well as battery style (Deep Cylce, Start, Marine) and battery type (lead-acid, gel cell, AGM)

in now i have 6 trojan 105 with 225 ah    the 12 volts i have sitting in the kitchen are 525 ah marine

i looked and it says 525 cold cranking amps not amp hours  how dose that relate to the others i have that say 180 amp hours?

Just to add muddy the waters somewhat, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic at my work (we have a fleet of over 150 vehicles, including six school buses) told me yesterday that he won't buy any more Trojan T-105 6-volt batteries for our electric carts, because (he says) they are now made in China, and they don't last as long as they used to.   He will be buying Crown batteries instead, which he says are made in USA, have thicker plates, more amp/hours, last longer, and cost not much more than Trojans.   As I said, that's just what he told me, but generally I respect his opinions and good advice.

Has anyone here heard anything about Trojans' recent quality vis-a-vis Crown batteries?   (After all, what else would I use in my Crown bus?)   Also, who makes Costco's Kirkland T-105 batteries  -  are they OK?

Crown batteries are made in Ohio.  I know someone that works there, his brother has a big white EAGLE bus. Deka in PA also makes batteries which they sell under their own name as well as for other companies. Their plant was featured on a History network program recently.  Jack
