When I put my floor in, I covered one of the vents on the floor that was connected to the one on the outside. I still have my

over the road heat.  Question is, should that be open and a register put in or is it OK to keep covered?  Someone told me that

they thought there was a thermostat located there.

  Any help would be appreciated!

.there should be a sensor in your cold air return that regulates temperature settings.this should be left open..if the area is a delivery area could cause to much restriction in flow..the cold air return should be located in the floor and would have been under a seat.

Old GMC air systems can be either fresh air intake or recirculation. Check your manual and you will probably find it is the same type.

If you have an MCI 5B as your handle suggests, the OTR heat returns are in the floor about 1/3 of the way back. The supplies are on each side. If you covered up one of those registers in the floor, your heat will still work OK. If you covered up both of them it won't work very well at all. My PO covered them both and I sawzsalled them open again.

Its a shared return plenum so as long as the sensor is still intact, I think it would work but I do not know because mine no longer has the electric control valve hooked up.

If you don't have an MCI 5 then never mind.

Steve -

I have a 5C and retained my coach heat (retained about everything, in fact  :)).

I covered my registers / returns with easy off 'lids,' which I remove when using the heat.  I've found (as Fred said) that removing just one seems to work fine.

Who knows, it might work leaving them both covered too (?) but I never tried that... easy enough to just pull off the cover.

FWIW.

Nellie, does your temperature control on the coach heat still work?  The temperature dial on the side switch panel?
