We are removing our UPS system at work and are going to be disposing of 40 C&D Technologies UPS12-270FR AGM batteries. They were all installed in March of 2007 and have been tested and maintained since then. Would some of these be good for a conversion battery bank? Here are the specs on them.
UPS12-270FR, 12 volts, 75.0 AH-20 hr rate to 1.75 vpc @ 77 F.
282 wpc 15 min rate to 1.67vpc@ 77 F. Float charge 13.5 to 13.8 @ 77 F. I would be connecting them for 24 volts to my Magnum 4024 inverter. My biggest power consumption would be a 20 cubic ft res refrig which would need power while moving only. I can all 40 of them so it is a deal.

I think they are a little on the small side per unit, but if the price is right, they should be a great choice.  They retail for between $160 and $200.  They weigh around 55 lbs, so you could get 8 of them, 440 lbs, and 300 ahr at 24 volts would be a nice battery bank.  My opinion, anyway.  AGM batteries at 2 years old are still good for 5 years or so anyway.

I am using 6 of those same batteries except mine are higher amperage.  They work just fine.  My only issue was a sore back from lifting batteries that weigh 100 pounds each.

I presently also have 8 of the 100 AH AGM's that were brand new when we changed these out. I am thinking of maybe grabing there too and reselling them if anyone is interested.

UPS batteries are designed for a different type of duty, so they are probably not the ideal battery to buy if you were getting new ones.  But since you are talking of getting good used ones for, what I assume is next to nothing, they will be great.
