Looks like he scraped up against a tree, and the current owner hasn't done anything to fix it.  Since he didn't put in an interior shot, I wonder what that "70% converted" means.  My guess is that it's got a table and an air mattress.  Anyone who suggests that a "converted" coach can be "restored to Greyhound" is saying that there really hasn't been a lot done to it.

I think he's after about twice what it's worth.

Tom, stupid question...what is a combo bus (passengers and freight?) and what about the door...is that it in the 1991 photo (kinda hard to see)?

I'll take that last question.
A 'Combo car' as they were called had a partition on the top deck which allowed a certain number of seats ahead of it and freight behind it.  There was a loading door at the right rear and if I remember correctly it had a roller type thing that helped in the loading of freight.
Remember that before UPS, FedEx and such! most shipping like that was done on the dog!  Toward the end of the Scenicruiser days with Greyhound they converted I think about 20 or so to Combo's.  (Is that right Tom?)
I know a guy in Detroit that can name them off by number!

And yes, the combo door is in the first photo at the right rear.  They had to modify the last window to make it work.
The first on I saw was on the bus in the last post Tom made, the Band Bus.

Sooo...should one assume that this is "driveable" on the highway? Nevermind, that is really a dumb question. Just need to remind myself that something like this IS NOT driveable and should be lowboy'd home.

You are correct on the Combo car description. I can't remember for sure the total number they converted to Combo. I have all the combo fleet numbers in my roster, but never bothered to count em all. My guess would be somewhere between 50 and 100.

As for driving 670. I would not hesitate for a minute if it starts and runs good, and has decent brakes. It would probably need some tires, and the normal maintenance issues caught up. Check/ change fluids. Radiator check. etc. etc. I would allow plenty of prep. time before I took off, and take along plenty of tools and parts and a good credit card!

I guess it all depends on your comfort level and past experience. Some folks think it's plain crazy to ever leave the driveway in anything other than a brand new vehicle. When you play the old bus game, you gotta be a believer!

I've driven the worst of them, so I have a clear understanding of what you are sayin'! I've plenty of tires/wheels so that part is not a problem. Probably spend more time loading stuff up in a service/chase vehicle than actually working on it!

Jack fwiw Greyhound had a lot of the MCI 7 combo units.
I think that is the bus that replaced the 4501 combo.
