On our 68 Eagle 01 it's located like this, with shifter in neutral, engage the reverse solenoid then shift to second, then release reverse solenoid button. You should then be in reverse. Then when selecting a different gear such as first, just move shifter forward to first position. This is according to our manual.

Ours has a two rod shifter, hope this is close.

Where are you located?

HTH,

Paul

I just talked with Clifford and he says you might try this. Shift lever over to the right and back, it's either back or forward from the far right. Let us know if it works or doesn't.

Forgive my ignorance in advance :) I know nothing of eagle's but on some Cars you have to push the shifter down(saab) or pull a sleeve or collar up for them to go into reverse.(ford) If you only have one linkage it has to be something quirky like that i would think! ;D

Good Luck

Is there a switch on the dash that says "REV" or similar?  Most commonly a momentary-on toggle, one where you've got to hold it in the "on" position.

If so, then try putting the gearbox into first, hold the switch on and pull the shift lever back into second.  See if that works.

Another possibility is that you might have to push down on the shift lever (like the old VW Beetle) to get past the detent into reverse.  If this is the case, then reverse could be to the left of the 1-2 pattern, or to the right of the 3-4 pattern.  Worth a try. . .

I just spoke to Dan Lenz, he said it is located over to the far right and back. You might have to push hard to get it over far enough to move the shift lever at the transmission. Also worn linkage could play a part in it.

You are correct, your coach is the last single shift rod tranny, no reverse solenoid, next bus went to the two rod.

Good news. Really need to give the credit to Clifford, he was right in the first place, he just couldn't remember if it was over and back, or over and forward.

1960eagle,

What part of Austin are you located? I live in New Braunfels about 45 minutes south,I-35 at mile marker 187. Is your eagle already converted? I have a 68 MCI-7.
