Saw what looks to be either new or newly rebuilt 8V92, 445 hp @ 2100 rpm on www.govliquidation.com . I emailed them for more info but they can only provide what is posted. Go to the site and do a search for Detroit Diesel and look at lot 7050. Located at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Does anybody know from info provide on site if it is left or right rotation ?

Hi Steve,

There is about 10, 10kw diesel generators on the site that all are about year 2003. They look like they would fit in a bus bay..

They look like they have turbo's too...

Yes I saw those also, they look great but it looks like they had some sort of control cable attached to the generator head area so you may have to set up new gauages etc. They were probably mounted remotely and had a remote control panel.

That engine was put out in 1977 it is a NON-silver engine, non by-pass blower. Don't bid very much for it.

Hope this helps

What does "it is a NON-silver engine, non by-pass blower." mean, Don?

Thanks, brian

When they built the silver engines they changed the molds and put more metal in the blocks and heads and changed the cooling passages some what for better cooling and heat stability in the engine. The silvers will handle higher Hp and TQ with better heat shedding capabilities.

The bypass blower has a a valve in the top back of the blower to help equalize the pressure between the air box and the turbo. Ideally you want one psi difference between the top and bottom of the blower. ( turbo boost and air box pressure )
This was done to help with MPG. you take the pressure off the bottom of the blower and make the turbo do the work and you lower the hp required to turn the blower.

Hope this helps

If the engine is an old engine (1977), what DDEC ECM would it have, if any? Can anyone offer that information for me?

Thank you

Keith

That is what I thought, but I figured it best to ask to be sure.

Wow!!!! This motor is at 5k and it still has a day and a half before bidding closes. This thing may have never been turned over and started and may have not run since '91. I was thinking it would end at the 3k range. So much for my guesses.

Seems kinda extreme

Rick, some buyer has probably determined the engine has new heads and a new crank and is willing to pay a price.
new crank from DD  5 grand
new heads ( not rebuilt) 6 grand
11 grand worth in 3 parts  and the marine guys will pay a price

good luck

Clifford,

I agree that genuine OEM parts are spendy but the big difference is if you buy those parts from a DD shop you get a hefty warranty with them. I called on one of these engines a while back and the guy in charge told me that alot of these engines have issues.

I wonder what 10 or even 15 years of sitting does to seals and cylinders and etc...?

I'm still surprised that the auction is about half done and they are already at 5k.

On ebay if a price is that high halfway through it usually means that it is gonna be at least 8k probably 10.

I wouldn't pay that for a no warranty, never heard run engine that may have been in storage since 1991.

What are your thoughts on long storage times Clifford? Everybody is always harping on me to start my bus at least once a month.

As always, I remind myself you know more about these engines than I will ever learn...
